The 2012 NCAA Division I FCS football season, part of college football in the United States, was organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the NCAA Division I, Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level. The 2013 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game was a postseason college football game between the North Dakota State Bison football, North Dakota State Bison and the Sam Houston State Bearkats football, Sam Houston State Bearkats. It was played on January 5, 2013, at Toyota Stadium (Texas), FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, Texas. The culminating game of the 2012 NCAA Division I FCS football season, it was won by North Dakota State, 39–13. With sponsorship by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the game was officially known as the NCAA FCS Championship presented by Enterprise Rent-A-Car. 2012 Idaho Vandals Football Team
The 2012 Idaho Vandals football team represented the University of Idaho in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Vandals were led by sixth-year head coach Robb Akey for the first eight games and played their home games on campus at the Kibbie Dome. This was Idaho's final season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference; the WAC ceased to support football after the 2012 season, and Idaho played as an independent in football in 2013. After achieving a 20–50 () record while head coach and a 1–7 record in 2012, Akey's contract was terminated on October 21. First-year offensive coordinator Jason Gesser was appointed interim head coach for the final four games, in which the Vandals were winless. The 2012 Colorado Buffaloes football team represented the University of Colorado Boulder in the Pac-12 Conference during the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Led by second-year head coach and alumnus Jon Embree, the Buffaloes played home games on campus at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado. The season was a disaster for the Buffaloes, who were regularly blown out by their opponents. CU lost to FCS Sacramento State, and only managed a single win with a late comeback at Washington State in Mike Leach's first season with the Cougars. Two days after the season on November 25, Embree was fired; he compiled a record, including 1–11 in his final year. To date, this is the worst season in program history.
