The president of Turkmenistan (), officially the president and chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, is the head of state and head of government of Turkmenistan. The president is also the supreme commander in chief of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan and heads the State Security Council. Serdar Berdimuhamedow is the current president of Turkmenistan, the third in the history of the country since it gained independence with the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. He succeeded his father, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow when the latter stepped down in 2022 after a reign of 15 years, the first president to do so. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow
Gurbanguly Mälikgulyýewiç Berdimuhamedow (born 29 June 1957) is a Turkmen politician and former dentist who is currently the chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan. He previously served as the second president of Turkmenistan from 2006 to 2022, when he entered into a power-sharing arrangement with his son, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, Serdar, the current president. A former dentist, Berdimuhamedow served in the government of the president, Saparmurat Niyazov, as the Ministry of Health (Turkmenistan), minister of health in 1997 and as the third Vice President of Turkmenistan, vice president in 2001. Raşit Öwezgeldiýewiç Meredow (; born 29 May 1960) is a Turkmen politician and diplomat who has served as the fourth Vice President of Turkmenistan, vice president of Turkmenistan under President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and his son, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, Serdar since 2007, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Turkmenistan), Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2001.
