French Television
Television in France was introduced in 1931, when the first experimental broadcasts began. Colour television was introduced in October 1967 on La Deuxième Chaîne. Digital terrestrial television The digital terrestrial television platform, known locally as TNT (from the literal translation in French, ''télévision numérique terrestre''), was launched on 31 March 2005 after a short testing period. Like Freeview in the UK, it provides many new channels, as well as the current terrestrial television stations. Like the rest of Europe, France uses the DVB-T transmission technology. The 13 first digital free channels were launched on 31 March 2005. In October, 4 additional free channels were added: the 24h news channels BFM TV and I-Télé, the music and entertainment youth channel Europe 2 TV, and the free children channel Gulli, joint-venture between Lagardère Active and France Télévisions. Tsilla Chelton
Tsilla Chelton (21 June 1919 – 15 July 2012) was a French actress of theatre and film, famous for playing the main role in 1990 film Tatie Danielle, in which she was nominated for a César Awards and as an elderly Dominican in Sister Smile. Biography Tsilla Schilton was born in Jerusalem but spent her childhood in Belgium. The daughter of French parents of Jewish heritage, she lost her mother at the age of 6, and followed her father to Antwerp. She moved to Switzerland during World War II before settling in Paris. Married to decorator Jacques Noël, she had 4 children. Attracted by theatre, she started acting in Marcel Marceau's troupe. Other sources, such as Le Monde, list 1918 as the birth date and 94 years old when she died. Her career was mainly in theatre, where she acted in the eleven works of Eugène Ionesco, earning a Molière Award for best comedian in Ionesco's ''The Chairs''. AlloCiné TV was a private thematic TV channel, launched by the website AlloCiné on September 5, 2011. It offered magazines and documentaries regarding cinema topics. It also broadcast movies of different categories in the evening. History On September 5, 2011, AlloCiné TV was launched via the cable and satellite networks of Orange, Free and Bouygues Telecom, as of September 20, 2011 on CanalSat and Numericable and as of October 4, 2011 via the SFR network. AllCciné TV was a cinema-based channel, free and independent of other channels. It offered 24 hours a day issues and reports behind the scenes of the 7th Art. Berbère Télévision is a TV channel broadcasting in Tamazight language from Montreuil. Berbère Télévision was set up by BRTV Group. History Berbere Television started in January 2000 under the name BRTV (Berber Radio Television). This channel is devoted to the discovery of the Berber world and openness to the world of culture. The channel broadcasts 24 hours a day since spring 2004. The channel has co-produced the film ''The forgotten hill'' which is now its property. CStar () is a French free-to-air television channel, owned by Canal+. History D17 was launched on 7 October 2012, replacing Direct Star, after Canal+ bought it from Bolloré. D17 was rebranded CStar on 5 September 2016. Since 27 February 2018, a sister channel named CStar Hits France is available exclusively on Canal+ channel 180, airing only French music clips. Programs CStar's programming has a musical predominant. The channel also airs documentaries, concerts, series, dramas, movies and previously Japanese anime. Direct Star was a French free-to-air music television channel owned by Vincent Bolloré, that launched on 1 September 2010, replacing Virgin 17. The channel was bought by Canal+ Group and replaced by CStar on 7 October 2012. History Bolloré's development in TNT On 10 June 2010, Bolloré Group, which already owned Direct 8, bought the Virgin 17 channel from Lagardère Active for a sum that would amount to approximately €70 million, excluding the takeover of staff (20 people) and part of the programs. On 12 July 2010, the CSA gave its agreement for this repurchase. TF1 Séries Films, formerly HD1 (acronym for ''Histoire de'') is a French TV channel, controlled by TF1 Group. HD1 launched on TNT, satellite, and xDSL on 12 December 2012. History Proposed new TNT channels With the shutdown of analogue television, TF1 Group initially was set to launch a reformated version of the Breton language channel TV Breizh, to be called 'tv-b'. However, Brussels ordered the cessation of the new channel slots from the former analogue terrestrial companies, i.e. TF1 Group, Canal+ Group and M6 Group. The plans for TV Breizh were abandoned. HD1 In March 2012, the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA) auditioned TF1 Group following its application for an additional channel from one of the six national HD channels on TNT. The name's wordplay represents its positioning as M6's little "sister", and (via the '' ter'' suffix) as Groupe M6's third free-to-air entertainment channel (after M6 itself and W9).
