2012 ITU World Triathlon Series
The 2012 ITU World Triathlon Series was a series of eight World Championship Triathlon events that culminated in a Grand Final held in Auckland, New Zealand in October 2012. The series was organized under the auspices of the world governing body of triathlon, the International Triathlon Union (ITU). The World Triathlon Series (WTS) visited Sydney, San Diego, Madrid, Kitzbühel, Hamburg, London, Stockholm, and Auckland. The series took place during the 2012 Summer Olympic year, with many countries using the results of select series races to determine which athletes would qualify to represent their nation in triathlon at the 2012 Summer Olympics. The series included two sprint-distance races and six Olympic-distance races. The stop in Stockholm also served as the location for the 2012 ITU Team Triathlon World Championships. ITU World Triathlon Series
The World Triathlon Championship Series is an annual series of triathlon events organised by World Triathlon. The series is used to crown an annual world champion since 2008. Previously, the ITU (the former name of World Triathlon) world champion between 1989 and 2008 had been decided in a single annual championship race. The Championship Series consists of multiple rounds of competitions culminating in a Grand Final race. Athletes compete head-to-head for points in these races that will determine the overall World Triathlon champion. The elite championship races are held, with one exception, over one of two distances, the standard or 'Olympic' distance (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run) which lasts between 1.5 and two hours, and the sprint distance, which is half of the standard distance and lasts around one hour (750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run). Andrea Hansen (née Hewitt, born 4 April 1982) is a New Zealand triathlete who placed third at the 2009 ITU Triathlon World Championships and competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics, 2008, 2012 Summer Olympics, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics. Vincent Luis (born 27 June 1989 in Vesoul, France) is a French professional triathlete. Besides his many WTS wins and his participation in the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2016 Summer Olympics, he won the ITU World Championship in 2019 and 2020, and the Mixed Relay Team World Championship with the French national team in 2015, 2018 and 2019. Francisco Javier Gómez Noya (born 25 March 1983) is a Spanish triathlete. He is the winner of five ITU Triathlon World Championships, he holds three ITU Triathlon World Cup titles, and won the Silver medal for Spain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in men's triathlon.
