2012 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
The 2012 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships was an international figure skating competition in the 2011–12 season. It was held at the World Arena in Colorado Springs, USA on February 7–12. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Qualification The competition was open to skaters from a non-European member nation of the International Skating Union who reached the age of 15 before July 1, 2011. The corresponding competition for European skaters was the 2012 European Championships. Entries The entries were as follows. Jeremy Abbott withdrew due to injury and was replaced by Richard Dornbush. 2011–12 Figure Skating Season
The 2011–2012 figure skating season began on July 1, 2011, and ends on June 30, 2012. During this season, elite skaters competed on the ISU Championship level at the 2012 European, Four Continents, World Junior, and World Championships. They also competed in elite events such as the Grand Prix series and Junior Grand Prix series, culminating in the Grand Prix Final. Season notes On September 26, 2011, American Brandon Mroz landed a quad Lutz in the short program at the 2011 Colorado Springs Invitational. The U.S. Figure Skating-sanctioned competition was a small non-ISU event with three men's entries, making it unclear whether the accomplishment would be recognized by the International Skating Union. In October, the ISU announced it had ratified the jump as the first quad Lutz to be performed in a sanctioned competition. Kevin Alves
Kevin Alves (born October 19, 1991) is a Brazilian Canadian figure skater and actor. He competed in the free skate at five ISU Championships. He is the first male skater to represent Brazil at an ISU Championship ( 2008 Four Continents) and the first Brazilian skater to appear in any discipline at the World Junior Championships (2008). Personal life Alves was born on October 19, 1991, in Toronto and raised in Newmarket, Ontario. His mother is from Brazil and his father is from Portugal. Skating career Alves competed up through the junior level in the Canadian domestic competition structure. Gregory Merriman, also known as Greg, (born 3 October 1988) is an Australian former competitive ice dancer. With partner Danielle O'Brien, he is a six-time Australian senior national champion and three-time junior national champion. They have competed at the World Championships and Four Continents Championships since 2008, and have competed at three World Junior Championships. They became the first Australian ice dancers to reach the free dance at a World Championships and the second Ice Dance couple from Australia to compete at the Winter Olympics. Jaimee Nobbs (born 10 March 1995) is an Australian former competitive figure skater. She is a three-time (2011, 2013, 2014) Australian ladies' bronze medallist. Brendan Kerry (born 18 November 1994) is an Australian figure skater.
