2012 Dubai Sevens
The 2012 Dubai Sevens was held on 30 November and 1 December 2012 at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai. It was the 24th edition of the tournament and the second stop of the 2012–13 IRB Sevens World Series. Samoa defeated New Zealand 26–15 in the final to win the title. Format The teams were drawn into four pools of four teams each. Each team played everyone in their pool one time. The top two teams from each pool advanced to the Cup/Plate brackets. The bottom two teams from each group went to the Bowl/Shield brackets. Nathan Hirayama
Nathan Hirayama (born 23 March 1988) is a Canadian former rugby player. His primary position was fly-half, however, but he also played fullback. He played for both the Canadian national team and the Canadian sevens team. At club level, Hirayama played for the University of Victoria in the British Columbian Premiership and the BC Bears in the Canadian Rugby Championship. National team Fifteens Hirayama was selected for the Canadian national team to attend the 2007, 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cups, although he did not play any games in 2007. He appeared as a substitute two of Canada's four 2011 World Cup group stage matches. He was Canada's starting fly-half for the 2015 World Cup, playing in all four group stage matches and recording 20 points. Dan Norton
Daniel John Norton (born 22 March 1988) is a former rugby union player. He is the leading all-time try scorer in the World Rugby Sevens Series with over 350 tries, beating the previous record of 244 held by Kenya's Collins Injera at the 2017 Hong Kong Sevens tournament. A product of Hartpury College, Norton played most of his career as a winger. Norton was part of the Gloucester academy and dual registered with Moseley for both the 2007–08 and 2008–09 seasons. Moving on to Bristol Bears (Previously Bristol Rugby) from the 2009–10 and 2010–11 seasons. Norton won a silver medal at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, he scored a try in the final, but was unable to prevent a 43-7 drubbing by Fiji. Collins Injera
Collins Injera, OGW, OLY (born 18 October 1986) is a former Kenyan rugby player. He holds third place for the number of tries scored on the World Rugby Sevens Series with 279. He is known for his achievements with Kenyan national rugby sevens team. Career Injera started playing rugby while at Vihiga High School in Vihiga. After graduation in 2005, he joined military team Ulinzi RFC playing in the Kenya Cup league. Kurt Baker (born 7 October 1988) is a New Zealand rugby union player, who currently plays as a fullback or wing for Old Glory DC in Major League Rugby (MLR). Between 2008 and 2022, Baker played for the New Zealand Sevens team in 233 World Rugby Sevens Series games and a total of 53 international tournaments. Paul Lusi Perez (born 26 July 1986) is a Samoan rugby union player. Career Sevens In 2005 and 2006, Perez was part of the Samoa sevens side. He was also a member of the Samoan side that played at the 2005 Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament in Hong Kong. 2011 Dubai Sevens
The 2011 Dubai Sevens was the 11th edition of the tournament and was part of the 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series. It was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at The Sevens stadium. It was the official debut for the United Arab Emirates national team, the first of several national teams to have been created after the disbanding of the tournament's former host union, the Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union. England defended their title by defeating France 29–12 in the final. Also, it included the first official IRB-sponsored women's sevens event outside of the Rugby World Cup Sevens. The 2012–13 IRB Sevens World Series, known for sponsorship reasons as the HSBC Sevens World Series, was the 14th annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for full national sides. The Samoa national rugby sevens team, referred to as Samoa Sevens or Manu Samoa 7s, competes in the annual World Rugby Sevens Series.
