2011–12 Oman Elite League
The 2011–12 Oman Elite League (known as the ''Omantel Elite League'' for sponsorship reasons) was the 36th edition of the top football league in Oman. It began on 25 September 2011 and was scheduled to finish on 19 May 2012, but for the first time in the history of Omani League, the league title had to be decided by a playoff. Al-Suwaiq Club were the defending champions, having won the previous 2010–11 Elite League season. On Monday, 21 May 2012, Fanja SC won the Championship Final match against Al-Shabab Club 7–6 on penalties after the match had ended 3–3 after extra time and emerged as the champions of the 2011–12 Oman Elite League. Teams This season the league had 12 teams. Saham SC and Al-Nasr S.C.S.C. were relegated to the Second Division League after finishing in the relegation zone in the 2010–11 season. Omani League
The Oman Professional League (; known as the ''Omantel Professional League'' for sponsorship reasons), previously known as the Omantel Elite League, is the top division of the Oman Football Association, and was officially created in 1976. Currently, the most successful team in the league is Dhofar S.C.S.C., Dhofar with 12 titles to their name. Evolution to a professional league In 2010, during the annual draw for the Sultan Qaboos Cup, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman, granted the Oman Football Association, OFA an annual 2.6 million Omani Rial, rial (approximately 6.7 million US Dollars, dollars) till the year 2015 to further boost the development of the league. Barka () is a coastal city and ''Wilayah'' (Provinces of Oman, Province) in the region Al Batinah Region, Al Bāţinah, in northern Oman. Sur, Oman
Sur () is the capital city of Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate, and the former capital of Ash Sharqiyah Region in northeastern Oman, on the coast of the Gulf of Oman. It is located about southeast of the Omani capital Muscat. Al-Oruba Sports Club was a Qatari football club. The football club merged with Al-Nasour to form a new football club named Al-Esteqlal, now known as Qatar SC. It was a founding member of the Q-League and it has won five consecutive Q-League titles. History Early career Al Oruba was founded in 1959. The idea of founding the club came from Abdulaziz bin Jassim. Al Buraimi Governorate
Al Buraimi Governorate () is one of the 11 governorates of Oman. The area was part of Ad Dhahirah Region until October 2006, when a new governorate was created from the wilayats (provinces) of Al Buraymi and Mahdah.
