Webcomics
Webcomics (also known as online comics or Internet comics) are comics published on a website or mobile app. While many are published exclusively on the web, others are also published in magazines, newspapers, or comic books. Webcomics can be compared to self-published print comics in that anyone with an Internet connection can publish their own webcomic. Readership levels vary widely; many are read only by the creator's immediate friends and family, while some of the largest claim audiences well over one million readers. Webcomics range from traditional comic strips and graphic novels to avant garde comics, and cover many genres, styles, and subjects. They sometimes take on the role of a comic blog. Hark! A Vagrant
''Hark! A Vagrant'' is a webcomic published by Canadian artist Kate Beaton between 2007 and 2018. It discussed historical and literary topics in a comedic tone and was drawn in black and white. Recurring themes ''Hark! A Vagrant'' is best known for its humorous treatment of historical figures and events. Beaton began drawing history-themed comics for her student newspaper while studying History and Anthropology at Mount Allison University. Historical personages that have made appearances in the comic include Napoléon Bonaparte, Ada Lovelace, Marie Antoinette, and the Founding Fathers of the United States. Mike Norton is an American comic book artist and writer, known for his work on ''Battlepug''. Early life Mike Norton first discovered comics as a child when his father gave him a copy of ''The Amazing Spider-Man'' #163, before he was old enough to read. Norton names that comic and ''Star Wars'' as his greatest childhood influences. ''Battlepug'' is a webcomic written and illustrated by Mike Norton, colored by Allen Passalaqua, and lettered by Chris Crank. History Norton created the characters for ''Battlepug'' in a rush to create a T-shirt for iFanboy.com. In February 2011, Norton launched his webcomic, ''Battlepug''. A dark-humored, fantasy-genred revenge story, ''Battlepug'' is about the last surviving member of the Kinmundian Tribe known only as "The Warrior", his steed, the ''Battlepug'', and their traveling companion, Scrabbly. The story is narrated by Moll, who recounts the tale to her talking dogs, a Pug named Mingo and a French Bulldog named Colfax. The first year of strips was collected into a hardcover by Dark Horse Comics and released July 4, 2012. In mid-2012, Mike Norton won the Best Digital Comic Eisner award for ''Battlepug''. Girl Genius ''Girl Genius'' is an ongoing comic book series turned webcomic, written and drawn by Phil and Kaja Foglio and published by their company Studio Foglio LLC under the imprint Airship Entertainment. The comic won the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story three times, has been nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Professional Artist and twice for Eisner Awards, and won multiple WCCA awards. ''Girl Genius'' has the tagline of "Adventure, Romance, Mad Science!". It follows the main character Agatha Heterodyne (introduced in 1995) through an alternate-history Victorian-style "steampunk" setting, although elements veer from what is usually thought of as steampunk. Kaja Foglio describes it as " gaslamp fantasy" instead to suggest its more fantastic style.
