2011 Vietnamese Legislative Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Vietnam on 22 May 2011. Since Vietnam is a single-party state, the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam was guaranteed to win a majority. Campaign According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, there were 827 candidates. 31.4% were women, 14.3% were not members of the Communist Party, 16.1% were members of ethnic minorities and 22.1% were candidates running for reelection. Regardless of party standing, all candidates are evaluated by the Fatherland Front. Originally, 82 people were self-nominated, but of those only 15 were approved by party officials in order to run in the election. However, Vietnam saw an increase of self-nominated candidates (82) in 2011 compared to 30 in 2007. Some pro-democracy and human rights activists were a part of the self-nominated group, who did not receive the required approval. Parliamentary elections were held in Vietnam on 20 May 2007. Results Aftermath Following the elections, in the first session of the new National Assembly, Nguyễn Phú Trọng was elected as Chairman on 23 July 2007. Incumbent president Nguyễn Minh Triết was re-elected by the new National Assembly on 24 July 2007 with 98.78% of the vote. Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, who had held the position since the resignation of Phan Văn Khải in 2006, was re-elected to the position on 25 July 2007. Elections in Vietnam occur under a single-party political system of the Vietnamese Communist Party (VCP). Vietnam is one of the last modern single-party authoritarian regimes, also known as a party-state, that does not hold direct elections at a national level. As a single-party system, elections are limited and monopolized by the ruling party, which bars free speech and interferes with results. Trương Tấn Sang
Trương Tấn Sang (born 21 January 1949) is a Vietnamese politician, who served as the seventh President of Vietnam from 2011 to 2016. He was one of Vietnam's top leaders, alongside prime minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and Party general secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng. In July 2011, Trương Tấn Sang was elected state president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam by the National Assembly of Vietnam and nominated by his predecessor Nguyễn Minh Triết who retired from office. Trương Tấn Sang was also ranked second after General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyễn Phú Trọng on the party's Central Secretariat, a body which directs policy making. Vietnamese Fatherland Front
The Vietnamese Fatherland Front ( vi, Mặt trận Tổ quốc Việt Nam) is an umbrella group of mass movements in Vietnam aligned with the Communist Party of Vietnam forming the Vietnamese government. It was founded in February 1977 by the merger of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front of North Vietnam and two Viet Cong groups, the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam and the Alliance of National, Democratic, and Peace Forces. It is an amalgamation of many smaller groups, including the Communist Party itself. Other groups that participated in the establishment of the Front were the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union ( the Ho Chi Minh Youth) and the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization. Communist Party Of Vietnam
The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), also known as the Vietnamese Communist Party (VCP), is the founding and sole legal party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Parliamentary elections were held in Vietnam on 22 May 2016. The members of the National Assembly, which would subsequently appoint the Prime Minister, and deputies of People's Councils at all levels were to be elected.
