2011 Solheim Cup
The 2011 Solheim Cup was the 12th Solheim Cup matches, held 23–25 September in Ireland at Killeen Castle in County Meath, northwest of Dublin. The biennial matches are a three-day contest for professional female golfers, between teams of 12 top players from the United States and Europe. Entering the 2011 matches, the U.S. had won the three recent competitions, with Europe's last victory coming eight years earlier in 2003 in Sweden. After the first two days of team play, the competition was tied at 8-all. Europe went 7–5 in singles on Sunday and regained the Cup, 15–13. It was Europe's fourth win, all won on home soil. Format The Solheim Cup is a match play event, with each match worth one point. Killeen Castle, Dunsany
Killeen Castle ( ga, Caisleán an Chillín), located in Dunsany, County Meath, Ireland, is the current construction on a site occupied by a castle since around 1180. The current building is a restoration of a largely 19th century structure, burnt out in 1981. Annika Charlotta Sörenstam (; born 9 October 1970) is a Swedish professional golfer. She is regarded as one of the best female golfers in history. Joanne Morley
Joanne Lois Morley (born 30 December 1966) is an English professional golfer. Morley was born in Sale. She was leading amateur at the Women's British Open in 1989 and 1993 and English Women's Strokeplay Champion in 1991 and 1992. She finished runner-up in the 1992 British Ladies Amateur. She played on the Great Britain and Ireland team in the 1992 Curtis Cup (winners) and the 1992 Espirito Santo Trophy (2nd place). 2009 Solheim Cup
The 11th Solheim Cup Matches were held August 21–23, 2009 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois, west of Chicago. The biennial matches are a three-day team competition for professional female golfers, pitting the 12 best players born in the United States against the 12 best players of European nationality. The United States claimed the Cup for the third consecutive meeting, winning 16–12. Entering the final day, the competition was tied at 8 points each, but the U.S. won eight of the dozen singles matches to retain the Solheim Cup.
