2011 NPF Draft
The 2011 NPF Draft is the eighth annual NPF Draft. It was held March 18, 2011 8:00 pm EST in Orlando, FL at the Amway Center for the 2011 season. It was streamed live on the Major League Baseball's website MLB.com. The first selection was Alabama's Kelsi Dunne, picked by the NPF Diamonds. Softball
Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Softball is played competitively at club levels, the college level, and the professional level. The game was first created in 1887 in Chicago by George Hancock. There are two rule sets for softball generally: ''slow pitch softball'' and '' fastpitch''. Slow pitch softball is commonly played recreationally, while women's fastpitch softball is a Summer Olympic sport and is played professionally. Depending on the variety being played and the age and gender of the players, the particulars of field and equipment vary. While distances between bases of 60 feet are standard across varieties, the pitcher's plate ranges from 35 to 43 feet away from home plate, and the home run fence can be 220 to 300 feet away from home plate. Jenn Salling
Jennifer Salling (born 4 July 1987) is a Canadian, former collegiate All-American, medal-winning Olympian and professional softball player. She played college softball at Oregon and Washington, and won a national championship at Washington in 2009. She has also played professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch for the USSSA Pride, Pennsylvania Rebellion and most recently the Canadian Wild. She represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics, where she set the tournament batting average record for a single Olympic games, and won a bronze medal. Career Salling began her college softball career at Oregon in 2007, before transferring to Washington in 2008. She won a national championship at Washington in 2009. Salling was drafted third overall by the USSSA Pride in the 2011 NPF Draft and played for them from 2011–14. She most recently played for the Canadian Wild. The Georgia Bulldogs softball team represents University of Georgia in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in the Southeastern Conference. Akron Racers
The Akron Racers were a women's softball team based in Akron, Ohio. They have moved to Cleveland and been renamed the Cleveland Comets in 2018. The team was started by Joey Arietta in 1999 to participate in the Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL). From 2004-2017, they have played as a member of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF). History The Akron Racers became the first Midwest franchise to begin play in the WPSL in 1999. The league suspended play in Orlando and assigned the Wahoos roster to the Racers. In 2000, the league consolidated sending the Georgia Pride team to Akron. The team was renamed the Ohio Pride. Both teams began sharing Firestone Stadium In their first year the Racers made it to the championship of the WPSL, but lost to the Tampa Bay FireStix. The WPSL suspended operations in 2001; the Racers was the only team of the four 2001 teams to revive when the league reformed as the NPF in 2004. List Of All-NPF Players
The following is a list of National Pro Fastpitch players who have been selected for the All-NPF Team at least once in their careers. Each year's All-NPF Team recognizes players for excellence on the field during the season. Since 2006, the All-NPF Team has been selected by the league and announced during the awards banquet after the end of the regular season.
