2011 FC Dallas Season
The 2011 FC Dallas season was the sixteenth season of the team's existence. They tied the franchise record for most points in the regular season & made the playoffs for the second consecutive year. The season was marked by their debut in the CONCACAF Champions League, where they finished third in their group, behind UNAM Pumas and Toronto FC. Also in the Champions League, they became the first American soccer club to defeat a Mexican team on Mexican soil (UNAM) in a meaningful competition. Overview March On March 19, FC Dallas opened the 2011 Major League Soccer Season at Pizza Hut Park against Brimstone Cup rivals, Chicago Fire. FC Dallas
FC Dallas is an American professional soccer club based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The club competes as a member of the Western Conference in Major League Soccer (MLS). The franchise began play in 1996 as a charter club of the league. The club was founded in 1995 as the Dallas Burn before adopting its current name in 2004. Since 2005, Dallas have played in the DFW area's northern suburbs at the 20,500-capacity soccer-specific Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas; home games in the club's early years were played at the Cotton Bowl. CONCACAF Champions League
The CONCACAF Champions League, known officially as the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League for sponsorship reasons, is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONCACAF. The tournament is contested by clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. The winner of the CONCACAF Champions League automatically qualifies for the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament currently uses a knockout format; it had a group stage prior to the 2018 competition. Unlike its European and South American counterparts, the winner of the CONCACAF Champions League does not automatically qualify for the following season's competition. Andrés Mendoza (Peruvian Footballer)
Andrés Augusto Mendoza Acevedo (born April 26, 1978 in Chincha Alta), known as Andrés Mendoza, is a Peruvian former footballer. Club career Mendoza started playing professionally with Sporting Cristal, which he helped become national champion in his first season. Subsequently, he represented a myriad of teams, in Belgium, Ukraine, Russia, Romania and France. He had a steady period with Club Brugge K.V., helping it win the 2002 Belgian Cup, with a hat-trick in a 3–1 one win over Excelsior Mouscron, while also netting the game's only in a 1–0 success at AC Milan, in the 2003-04 UEFA Champions League. Jackson Henrique Gonçalves Pereira (born June 3, 1988), commonly known as Jackson, is a Brazilian footballer. He is known for his physical prowess and utility player abilities. Career Jackson made his professional debut for São Paulo against Fluminense in a 1-1 draw at the Maracanã in the Campeonato Brasileiro on October 13, 2007. Rubén Luna (born February 10, 1992) is a Mexican former footballer who played as a forward. Career Youth Luna had a distinguished youth career with FC Dallas in the USSF Development Academy. In 2009, he was named the league's U16 Player of the Year following a season in which he scored 38 goals in 27 games. He was named to the U18 Development Academy Best XI in 2010. Christopher Elliott "Chris" Wondolowski (born January 28, 1983) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a forward. Nicknamed Wondo, he scored 171 career goals, the most in Major League Soccer history, and he was MLS's top scorer in the 2010 and 2012 seasons, also being named the 2012 Most Valuable Player, and was one of the top strikers during his time playing in Major League Soccer. Dane Brekken "Brek" Shea (born February 28, 1990) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a winger or left-back for Major League Soccer club Inter Miami. Shea began his career with Major League Soccer team FC Dallas after playing in the IMG Academy. He made his debut during the 2008 season and helped Dallas reach the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2010 and 2011. In January 2013, Shea joined English Premier League side Stoke City for a fee of £2.5 million.
