2011 Bulgarian Local Elections
Local elections were held in all municipalities in Bulgaria on 23 October 2011 (first round) and on 30 October 2011 (second round). Voters elected municipal mayors, village mayors and members of municipal councils of 265 municipalities. They were held alongside the 2011 presidential election. Results GERB won 14 regional mayorships, BSP 8, DPS 1. 4 other incumbent mayors won without the backing of those three parties. 2015 Bulgarian Local Elections
Local elections were held in all municipalities in Bulgaria on 25 October 2015 (first round) and on 1 November 2015 (second round). Voters elected municipal mayors, village mayors and members of municipal councils of 265 municipalities. They were held alongside a referendum on the electoral code. Controversy The election campaign was accompanied by multiple scandals about vote-buying, voting tourists and arrests. On the election day, the election authorities in some polling stations did not provide ballots. After the first round, members of election officials were kept 48 hours locked in the election authority counting center at Arena Aremeec Hall. Results First round GERB, the opposition party won 34.5% of the vote and their incumbent mayors were reelected in Sofia, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnov, Stara Zagora, Blagoevgrad and Haskovo. Local elections were held in all municipalities in Bulgaria on 28 October 2007 (first round) and on 4 November 2007 (second round). Voters elected municipal mayors, village mayors and members of municipal councils of 265 municipalities. Results BSP won 11 regional mayorships, GERB, the new party of Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov, won 10 mayorships, SDS won 5 and DPS 1. 2011 Bulgarian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Bulgaria on 23 October 2011, with a runoff held on 30 October 2011. Incumbent president Georgi Parvanov was not eligible for re-election; the Constitution of Bulgaria limits a president to two terms. No candidate won outright in the first round, resulting in a runoff between the eventual winner, Rosen Plevneliev of GERB, and Ivaylo Kalfin of the Bulgarian Socialist Party. Background The presidential elections were held in conjunction with local elections, saving the country BGN 8 million according to the finance minister Simeon Djankov. However, the move drew criticism from the US Ambassador in Sofia, James Warlick, who said that the move led to poor administration during the elections.
