2010–11 SVB Hoofdklasse
The 2010–11 Surinamese Hoofdklasse is the 78th season of the Surinamese Hoofdklasse, the highest football league competition of Suriname. The season began on November 17, 2010 and will conclude on September 14, 2011. Inter Moengotapoe are the defending champions. Changes from 2009–10 * FCS Nacional and Jai Hanuman were relegated to the Eerste Klasse. * Excelsior and Kamal Dewaker were promoted to the Hoofdklasse * The league will play a balanced schedule with 18 games; each team playing every other team twice: home and away. At the conclusion of this, the league will be split into two groups. The teams placed 1st through 6th will play a 10-game double round robin schedule for the championship and Suriname's CFU Club Championship spots, while the teams placed 7th through 10th will play a 6-game double round robin schedule for a direct relegation spot and a promotion/relegation playoff spot. Hoofdklasse (Suriname)
The SVB Eerste Divisie is the highest football championship for clubs run by the Surinaamse Voetbal Bond. The Topklasse is at the top of the system of Surinamese football championships. The league currently comprises twelve teams and operates a system of promotion and relegation. Seasons run from November to June of the next year, with teams playing 30 games in the regular season. The league was known as the Hoofdklasse but became Topklasse beginning with the 2016–17 season, and then from the 2017–18 season forward, the Eerste Divisie. Sport Vereniging Transvaal is a Surinamese association football club, which currently play in the Eerste Divisie, the top flight of football in Suriname. They play their home games in Paramaribo at André Kamperveen Stadion to a capacity of 7,100. The team is one of Suriname's most successful, having won their first league championship in 1925, and having won a total of 19, good for second most in Suriname after Robinhood. Transvaal have also won the Beker van Suriname (Surinamese Cup) three times and the Suriname President's Cup twice (1997 and 2008). Ronnie Brunswijk
Ronnie Brunswijk (; born 7 March 1961) is a Surinamese politician, businessman, footballer, convicted drug trafficker, former rebel leader, and the current Vice President of Suriname. Brunswijk served in the early 1980s as the personal bodyguard of Dési Bouterse, who overthrew the government in 1980 in a military coup. Brunswijk was discharged after asking for a raise, and denied back pay. In 1985, Brunswijk formed the Surinamese Liberation Army, better known as the Jungle Commando. Brunswijk was seeking to gain recognition and rights for the Maroon minority of the interior, descendants of runaway African slaves who had established independent communities in the 17th and 18th centuries.
