2010 Dutch Cabinet Formation
After the general election of 9 June 2010, a cabinet formation took place in Netherlands. This led to the swearing in of the First Rutte cabinet after 127 days. The cabinet consisted of the conservative liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), with confidence and supply from the radical right Party for Freedom (PVV). The formation started with an exploration by informateur Uri Rosenthal and later Herman Tjeenk Willink. Negotiations took place for a purple plus coalition consisting of VVD, Labour Party (PvdA), Democraten 66 (D66) and GroenLinks. Despite advanced talks led by Rosenthal and Jacques Wallage, the talks ended on 20 July. Informateur Ruud Lubbers then explored a cabinet of VVD and CDA with confidence and supply from PVV. Beatrix (Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard, ; born 31 January 1938) is a member of the Dutch royal house who reigned as List of monarchs of the Netherlands, Queen of the Netherlands from 30 April 1980 until her abdication in 2013. Maxime Jacques Marcel Verhagen (; born 14 September 1956) is a retired Dutch politician and historian. A member of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), he served as Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 2010 to 2012 under Prime Minister Mark Rutte. A formateur (French for "someone who forms, who constitutes") is a politician who is appointed to lead the formation of a coalition government, after either a general election or the collapse of a previous government. The role of the formateur is especially important in the politics of Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Israel and the Czech Republic. These countries have a parliamentary system, where the executive derives its mandate from majority support in the legislature.
