2010 Camden London Borough Council Election
The 2010 Camden Council election took place on 6 May 2010 to elect members of Camden London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Labour Party gained overall control of the council from no overall control. Election result The results saw Labour gain a majority on the council ousting the Liberal Democrat and Conservative alliance that had controlled the council. Labour won 30 seats, while the Liberal Democrats were reduced to 13 seats, and the Conservatives were reduced to 10 seats. The Green Party also lost seats, being reduced to 1 seat in Highgate, after losing the other 2 seats in the ward to Labour. Labour gained seats from the Liberal Democrats in Camden Town with Primrose Hill, Cantelowes, Kentish Town and Kilburn, while the Conservatives lost seats in Bloomsbury and Gospel Oak to Labour. Camden London Borough Council, also known as Camden Council, legally The Mayor and Burgesses of the London Borough of Camden, is the local authority for the London Borough of Camden in Greater London, England. Camden Town With Primrose Hill
Camden Town with Primrose Hill was a ward in the London Borough of Camden, in the United Kingdom. The ward was created for the May 2002 local elections. At the 2011 Census the population of the ward was 12,613. The ward was abolished at the 2022 election. Most of its area became part of the newly created Camden Town and Primrose Hill wards, with some areas becoming part of the St Pancras and Somers Town ward. Rebecca Hossack
Rebecca Hossack (born October 1955), is an Australian-born London gallerist, who helped introduce Indigenous Australian art to a British audience. She is considered an expert on Aboriginal art, Australian Aboriginal culture and non-Western art traditions, who was the first to introduce many of the Aboriginal Australian artists to Europe, including Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri. She also curates African Art and indigenous art from other countries such as Papua New Guinea. She founded the Rebecca Hossack Gallery in 1988. Janet McKenzie, co-editor of Studio International said, "Hossack has almost single-handedly introduced Australian Aboriginal art to Britain and Europe". In 1989 Hossack launched the first of her ongoing ''Songlines'' seasons of Aboriginal art, which ran from June to September annually. Bloomsbury (ward)
Bloomsbury is a ward in the London Borough of Camden, in the United Kingdom. It covers much of the historic area of Bloomsbury, and also some of Covent Garden and Fitzrovia. The ward has existed since the creation of the borough on 1 April 1965 and was first used in the 1964 elections, although its boundaries have evolved significantly over time. Since 1983, the ward has been in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency, having previously been in Holborn and St Pancras South. It elects three councillors to Camden council, currently all held by the Labour Party, with an election every four years. In 2018, the ward had an electorate of 8,318. The Boundary Commission projects the electorate to rise to 8,541 by 2025. Claire-Louise Leyland
Claire-Louise Vaculik (née Leyland) is an English Conservative politician. She was the leader of the Conservatives on Camden London Borough Council from 2014 to 2018, and represented Belsize on the council from 2010 to 2018. She has stood unsuccessfully for Parliament twice: in West Tyrone in 2015 and her home seat of Hampstead and Kilburn in 2017. Early life and education Leyland was born in South Africa and attended Wynberg Girls' High School in Cape Town, followed by Stellenbosch University and Rhodes University. She moved to London in 1998 to study further at Goldsmiths and Middlesex University. Career Leyland is an art therapist by profession, and is the chair of the British Association of Art Therapists, the British professional body for art therapists. Belsize () is a ward in the London Borough of Camden, in the United Kingdom. The ward covers most of Belsize Park, between Haverstock Hill, Swiss Cottage, and Primrose Hill. Belsize Park is a residential area of Hampstead in the London Borough of Camden, in the Inner London, inner North West London, north-west of London, England. The residential streets are lined with Georgian and Victorian villas and mews houses. Gospel Oak
Gospel Oak is an area of north west London in the London Borough of Camden at the very south of Hampstead Heath. The neighbourhood is positioned between Hampstead to the north-west, Dartmouth Park to the north-east, Kentish Town to the south-east, and Belsize Park to the south-west. Gospel Oak lies across the NW5 and NW3 postcodes and is served by Gospel Oak station on the London Overground.
