The 2009–10 Surinamese League (known officially as the Hoofdklasse) season was the 76th season of the Hoofdklasse (Suriname), Surinamese Hoofdklasse, the highest association football, football league competition of Suriname. Hoofdklasse (Suriname)
The SVB Eerste Divisie is the second highest football championship for clubs run by the Surinaamse Voetbal Bond. The league currently comprises twelve teams and operates a system of promotion and relegation. Seasons run from November to June, with each team playing 30 games in the regular season. The league was previously known as the Hoofdklasse but was rebranded as the Topklasse for the 2016–17 season, before being renamed the Eerste Divisie starting in the 2017–18 season. In 2024, the SVB introduced a new professional competition, the Suriname Major League, with the Eerste Divisie now serving as the nation's top amateur competition. SV Transvaal
Sport Vereniging Transvaal is a Surinamese association football club, which plays in the top of football in Suriname. They play their home games in Paramaribo at André Kamperveen Stadion to a capacity of 7,100. The team is one of Suriname's most successful, having won their first league championship in 1925, and having won a total of 19, good for second most in Suriname after Robinhood. Transvaal have also won the Beker van Suriname (Surinamese Cup) three times and the Suriname President's Cup twice (1997 and 2008). The biggest international successes were in 1973 and 1981, both resulting in CONCACAF Champions Cup victories. To date, they are the only Surinamese club to win the Champions Cup. Letitia Vriesde Sportcomplex is a multi-purpose stadium in Totness, Suriname. It is home to SVB Eerste Klasse club F.C. West United. Former top flight clubs and Coronie Sport Bond (CSB) members F.C. Oost is a resort in Suriname, located in the Para District. Its population at the 2012 census was 8,016. The main town in the resort is Paranam. Oost is also home to the former leper colony Bethesda. Sport Vereniging Leo Victor, known as SV Leo Victor, is a Surinamese football club which plays in the Eerste Divisie. They play their home games in Paramaribo at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadion. History Founded on 9 January 1934 as a Roman Catholic sports club, S.V. Leo Victor were founded by the working community of the Leo Victor cigar factory in Paramaribo, Suriname. In 1964, Leo Victor became the first association football club of Suriname to qualify for an International CONCACAF club tournament, qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions' Cup.
