NB II, currently known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of Hungarian football. At the end of the 2004–05 season, the tournament format was changed from one division of 14 teams to two divisions: ''Keleti'' (Eastern) and ''Nyugati'' (Western), each with 16 teams. In 2013 the format was changed and there is one division again with 16 teams, and then 20 teams from 2015. The champion and the runner-up will ascend to the first division while the two lowest teams in NB II are relegated to NB III. Format On 2 March 2017, the Hungarian Football Federation announced that the number of the teams in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II will not be reduced to 12. FC Tatabánya is a Hungarian football club based in Tatabánya. They play their home games at Stadion Gyula Grosics. History The ''Tatabányai Sport Klub'' was founded on February 6, 1910 by Ferenc Frei, a mining engineer. At this time several Hungarian towns outside of Budapest had formed football clubs – Debrecen, Miskolc, Győr. The First World War weakened the team, but in the 1920s the team was still without a doubt the most popular in Tatabánya. Professionalism was introduced into the Hungarian League, but the team couldn't afford this, and stuck with amateur players. Nemzeti Bajnokság III (''NBIII'', ''National Championship III'') is the third tier of Hungarian football (from the autumn of 1997 till the spring of 2005, NB III was the fourth tier, the third was NB II). The tier contains 3 groups (west, center, east) of 16 teams. From each group, the champions are promoted to the NB II. The 2010–11 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I, was the 109th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league is officially named ''Monicomp Liga'' for sponsorship reasons. The season began on 30 July 2010 and ended on 27 May 2011. Debrecen are the defending champions having won their fifth Hungarian championship and second in a row last season. Teams Nyíregyháza and Diósgyőr finished the 2009–10 season in the last two places and thus were relegated to their respective NB II divisions. Nyíregyháza ended a three-year stint in Hungary's highest football league while Diósgyőr were relegated after six years. Promotion to the league was achieved by the champions of the 2009–10 NB II Eastern Division, Szolnok and by the champions of the Western Division, Siófok.
