2009–10 KB Extraliga Season
The 2009–10 KB Extraliga competition was a Czech Republic, Czech domestic Rugby union, rugby club competition operated by the Czech Rugby Union, Česká Rugbyová Unie (ČSRU). It began on August 29, 2009 with a match between RC Tatra Smíchov, Tatra Smíchov and RK Petrovice, Petrovice at the Stadion ragby Císařka in Prague, and continued through to the final at the Synot Tip Arena on June 19, 2010. RC Bystrc, Bystrc and RC Zlín, Zlín were promoted, with the former having won the KB První Liga in 2008 and the latter the promotion playoffs, while RC Havířov, Havířov and RC Přelouč, Přelouč were relegated. Both Bystrc and Zlín went directly back to the První Liga, after occupying the bottom two places on the log at the end of the season. KB Extraliga
The Extraliga rugby XV is a Rugby union, rugby club competition played in the Czech Republic and is the top level of rugby in the country. There is a promotion-relegation process between the Extraliga ragby and the 1. Liga ragby XV. The league used to be known as KB Extraliga due to sponsorship by Komerční banka (KB) which lasted until the 2014/15 season. The season usually runs from September to May, although in the 2008 season, it was only from August through November 2008. Since 2008 the final has been played at the Synot Tip Arena in Prague. RC Říčany, RC Mountfield Říčany are the current champions. History The league was first played in 1993, with RC Vyškov, Vyškov as the first champions. Prior to the foundation of the league, clubs competed in the Czechoslovak Championship. RC Přelouč
RC Přelouč is a Czech rugby club based in Přelouč. They currently play in the 1. Liga ragby XV. History The club was founded on 16 June 1974 by Leopold Blachut, Jiří Mít and Jiří Franta out of the former Dukla Přelouč military team. They played their first match on 14 September 1974 against Slavia Prague B in Prague, eventually losing 35-41 after trailing 9-11 at half-time. In 1987 the club undertook its first overseas tour, to France. KB Extraliga 2008
The 2008 KB Extraliga Competition was a Czech domestic rugby club competition, operated by the Česká Rugbyová Unie (ČSRU). It began on August 16, 2008 with a match between Tatra Smíchov and Petrovice at the Stadion ragby Císařka in Prague, and ended with the final on November of that year with Tatra Smíchov beating Říčany 17-9 played on Synot Tip Arena in Prague. Praga and Přelouč were added, increasing the number of teams to 10 from the 8 of the previous season. Unlike most other years, the league was played over the course of only one year. RC Vyškov (known as JIMI RC Vyškov for sponsorship reasons) is a Czech rugby club in Vyškov. They currently play in the Extraliga ragby XV. History The club was founded in 1952. RC Říčany (known as RC Mountfield Říčany for sponsorship reasons) is a Czech rugby club based in Říčany. They currently play in the Extraliga ragby XV. Since 2009 they also compete in the Central & Eastern European Rugby Cup along with fellow Czechs Dragon Brno. History RC Říčany was founded in 1944 by Josef Kohout, after which the club's home ground is named. The club had a tough start, as World War II was still pretty much in full force. People were living in fear for the Gestapo or being sent to work in Germany. Initially, they played only friendly matches, including a match against an Anglo-American forces side in 1946. 1952 saw the temporary cessation of rugby activity, owing to the lack of skilled players and competent officials, problems with the playing field and financial struggles. RC Sparta Prague
RC Sparta Prague is a Czech rugby club based in Prague. They currently play in the Extraliga ragby XV and are the second oldest club in the Czech Republic after Slavia Prague. The club forms part of the Sparta Prague sports network. History Early years The club was officially founded on 28 August 1928, with the first coach being Frenchman Andrée Cannellas. Their first match was on 28 April 1929 against VŠ sport Brno. Later on in 1929 they took on fellow Prague side Slavia Prague, the latter prevailing 23–3. They did however manage to beat Slavia 8-0 not too long afterwards.
