The 2009–10 ISU Speed Skating World Cup, officially the ''Essent ISU World Cup Speed Skating 2009–2010'', was a series of international speed skating competitions which ran the entire season. The season started on 6 November 2009 in Berlin, Germany, and ended on 14 March 2010 in Heerenveen, Netherlands. ''SpeedSkatingStats.com''. Compared to previous seasons, fewer competition weekends were held; the season was restricted due to the 2010 Winter Olympics, which were arranged in Vancouver, Canada, during February 2010. In total, seven competition weekends were held at six different locations, ten cups were contested (five for men, and five for women), and 70 races took place. ISU Speed Skating World Cup
The ISU Speed Skating World Cup is a series of international speed skating competitions, organised annually by the International Skating Union since the winter of 1985–86. Every year during the winter season, a number of competitions on different distances and on different locations are held. Skaters can earn points at each competition, and the skater who has the most points on a given distance at the end of the series is the winner. Initially not very popular with skaters nor spectators, the World Cup has gradually become more and more popular, and this was due to the creation of the World Single Distance Championships. The results of the separate distances in the World Cup ranking are the main qualifying method for the World Single Distance Championships. Vikingskipet ("The Viking Ship"), officially known as Hamar Olympic Hall (), is an indoor Multi-purpose stadium, multi-use sport and event venue in Hamar, Norway. It was built as the speed skating rink for the 1994 Winter Olympics, and has since also hosted events and tournaments in ice speedway, motorcycle speedway, rallying, rally, association football, bandy, ice sledge speed racing, flying disc and track cycling. The arena is also used for concerts, trade fair and the annual computer party The Gathering (computer party), The Gathering. It is the home arena of Hamar IL bandy team. The venue is owned by Hamar Municipality, and along with Hamar Olympic Amphitheatre is run by the municipal Hamar Olympiske Anlegg. Speed Skating At The 2010 Winter Olympics
Speed skating at the 2010 Winter Olympics was held at the Richmond Olympic Oval, Richmond, British Columbia, between 13 and 27 February 2010. Notes Haralds Silovs became the first athlete in Olympic history to participate in both short track (1500 m) and long track (5000 m) speed skating, and the first to compete in two different disciplines on the same day. He competed in the 5000 m and then raced across town to the 1500 m event. The low altitude of Vancouver and high humidity inside the Richmond Olympic Oval, set just 3 metres above the sea, contributed to the fact that no world records in speed skating were set at these Games. Richmond Olympic Oval
The Richmond Olympic Oval () is an indoor multi-sports arena in the Canada, Canadian city of Richmond, British Columbia. The oval was built for the 2010 Winter Olympics and was originally configured with a speed skating rink. The venue has since been reconfigured and now serves as a community multi-sport park and includes two ice hockey rinks, two running tracks, a climbing wall, a rowing tank and a flexible area which can be used for, among other sports, basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer and table tennis. The Bids for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Olympic bid called for the oval to be located on the grounds of Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby, but Richmond was instead selected in 2004. The Meiji Hokkaido-Tokachi Oval, also known as the Obihiro Forest Speed Skating Oval, is an indoor track for speed skating in the city of Obihiro on the island of Hokkaido in Japan. The hall was opened in September 2009 as the second indoor track in Japan, after M-Wave in Nagano (city), Nagano.
