2009–10 Florida Panthers Season
The 2009–10 Florida Panthers season was the 17th season for the franchise in the National Hockey League. After earning 77 points in the season, the Panthers did not qualify for the playoffs. Off-season The Panthers moved their training facilities and administrative center to the 'Incredible Ice' complex in Coral Springs, Florida. A new $10 million, expansion was built to accommodate the Panthers. On June 1, 2009, General Manager Jacques Martin resigned his position to become the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Assistant General Manager Randy Sexton assumed the duties of general manager on an interim basis, and was named general manager just prior to the start of the season. This is Sexton's second time as an NHL general manager. He was the Ottawa Senators general manager in the early 1990s. The Eastern Conference (french: Conférence de l'Est) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Western Conference (NHL), Western Conference. History Originally named the Prince of Wales Conference, it was created in 1974–75 NHL season, 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs of the National Hockey League (NHL) began on April 14, 2010, after the 2009–10 NHL regular season. The Finals ended on June 9, 2010, with the Chicago Blackhawks defeating the Philadelphia Flyers in six games to win their fourth championship and their first since 1961. The SM-liiga (marketed as just Liiga from 2013 on), (Finnish for ''League'') colloquially called the Finnish Elite League in English or FM-ligan in Swedish, is the top professional ice hockey league in Finland. It is one of the six founding leagues of the Champions Hockey League and currently allocated five spots - the maximum number - based on success in previous editions. It was created in 1975 to replace the SM-sarja, which was fundamentally an amateur league. The SM-liiga is not directly overseen by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, but the league and association have an agreement of cooperation. SM is a common abbreviation for ''Suomen mestaruus'', "Finnish championship". Tappara (; Finnish for "Battle axe") is a Finnish professional ice hockey team playing in the Liiga. They play at '' Tampere Deck Arena'' in Tampere, Finland. The team has won 18 Finnish league championships (1959, 1961, 1964, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 2003, 2016, 2017, 2022). Tampere Ice Stadium ( fi, Tampereen jäähalli, often called ''Hakametsä'') is an indoor sports arena in Tampere, Finland. The Dallas Stars are a professional ice hockey team based in Dallas. The Calgary Flames are a professional ice hockey team based in Calgary. Dale Tallon
Michael "Dale" Tallon (born October 19, 1950) is a Canadian ice hockey executive and former player. He played in the NHL for ten years as a defenceman for the Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Following his retirement as a player, Tallon began a broadcasting career with the Blackhawks lasting 16 years. In 1998, he joined the front office as director of player personnel before working his way up to general manager. Serving in the latter capacity from 2005 to 2009, he helped rebuild the team into a Stanley Cup winner in 2010, at which point he had been demoted to assistant general manager. In May 2010, he was named general manager for the Panthers for the 2010–11 NHL season, serving in that position until August 2020.
