2009 UNGL Draft
The 2009 UNGL Draft was the inaugural draft for the United National Gridiron League. The draft was held on January 8–9, 2009. What made this draft unique was the fact that the league chose to skip having a rookie combine and held the draft online, in order to start the league in the spring of 2009. The first overall selection of the draft was UAB Blazers football, UAB running back Dan Burks by the Alabama Blackbirds. Troy University
Troy University is a public university in Troy, Alabama. It was founded in 1887 as Troy State Normal School within the Alabama State University System, and is now the flagship university of the Troy University System. Vanderbilt University
Vanderbilt University (informally Vandy or VU) is a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee. The United National Gridiron League (UNGL) was a proposed professional american football minor league. The league was formed in August 2007 and was originally called the ''United National Football League''. The league's inaugural draft took place January 8–9, 2009. The league had planned to begin the season on February 8, 2009 but, after a multiple postponements of the kick-off date, the inaugural season was pushed back to March 2010, and later cancelled altogether, because of financing problems. Financial struggles The league pushed back its season three times. According to the UNGL's Web site, the start of the season had been pushed back from February to May because of a "dishonest commitment made by the league's primary investor. reported in February that the investor "suddenly withdrew its $15 million contribution." Matt Bassuener (born April 8, 1984) is a former American football quarterback. He was signed by the Louisville Fire as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Eastern Illinois University is a public university in Charleston, Illinois. UCLA Bruins Football
The UCLA Bruins football program represents the University of California, Los Angeles, in college football as members of the Pac-12 Conference at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level. The Bruins play their home games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The Bruins have enjoyed several periods of success in their history, having been ranked in the top ten of the AP Poll at least once in every decade since the poll began in the 1930s. Drew Olson
Drew Martin Olson (born April 6, 1983) is a former American football quarterback. He was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2006. Olson has also played for the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers, but never appeared in a regular-season game. He played college football at UCLA. Early years Olson grew up in the affluent town of Piedmont, California, where he was the starting quarterback for the Piedmont Highlanders and gave the small school serious attention in the state, and even national spectacle, especially when he threw to All-Conference receiver, Pete Schneider. Olson led Piedmont to the Bay Shore League championship and was named to the 1st-team All-Bay Shore League team in 2000 and 2001. Olson was also the Bay Shore League Most Valuable Player as a junior.
