2009 Singapore Cup
The Singapore Cup 2009 (known as the RHB Singapore Cup due to its main sponsor) started on 27 April 2009. It was the 12th staging of the annual Singapore Cup tournament. 12 S.League clubs and 4 invited foreign teams from Thailand (2 teams), Cambodia (1) and Indonesia (1) played in this edition. The cup was a single-elimination tournament, with all sixteen teams playing from the first round. The first round involved one-off matches. Subsequent rounds involved ties of two legs. The final was played on 8 November and won by Geylang United, who beat Bangkok Glass 1–0. The cup winner were guaranteed a place in the 2010 AFC Cup. Geylang United
Geylang International Football Club is a professional football club based in Bedok, Singapore, that competes in Singapore Premier League, the top division of football in Singapore. The club was founded in 1973 and played their first season in 1974, winning the FAS Division Three League which earned them a spot in National Football League Division One the following year. They enjoyed their greatest successes in the 1980s and 90s, winning six consecutive FAS Premier League titles. Geylang International has won 2 league titles and 1 Singapore Cup since the inception of a professional league in 1996. Their greatest season was in 1996, when they became the first team to win both the league title and the FA Cup. Yishun Super Reds Football Club was a South Korean professional Football (soccer), football club based in Yishun, Singapore, which played as a foreign team in S.League between 2007 and 2009. History The creation of the club in 2007 was driven by the Korean community in Singapore. Parties involved in the governance of the club include the Korean Association of Singapore, and the Korean business community and Korean embassy in Singapore. The club was originally known as Korean Super Reds FC, but changed its name to Super Reds FC in August 2007. Jalan Besar Stadium, officially the Jalan Besar ActiveSG Stadium, is a football stadium located in Kallang, Singapore. The stadium is part of the Jalan Besar Sports and Recreation Centre, a community sports facility that includes the stadium as well as a swimming complex. Woodlands Stadium
Woodlands Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Woodlands, Singapore. It is the main home ground of S.League side, Woodlands Wellington, and used mostly for football matches for both the S.League and Singapore National Football League competitions. Apart from being used for competitive matches, the pitch is also used by the club for their training sessions as well. Woodlands Stadium is the only stadium in Singapore which has a MRT track overlooking the pitch. The stadium was officially opened in August 1989 as part of the eight hectare Woodlands Sports Complex, which also consists of the Woodlands Sports Hall and the Woodlands Swimming Complex. Warriors Football Club was a Singaporean professional football club based in Choa Chu Kang, Singapore, that played in the Singapore Premier League, the top division of football in Singapore. Young Lions Football Club, commonly known as Young Lions, is a developmental football club based in Kallang, Singapore, which competes in the Singapore Premier League. The team is under the control of the Football Association of Singapore. Young Lions are one of the few football clubs in the world made up of young Singaporean footballers serving their compulsory two-year national service, which places an age restriction on team members while playing in a top-flight professional league.
