2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Season
The 2009 National Hot Rod Association, NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Season consisted of 24 national events held at tracks across the U.S. The first 18 events made up the regular season, with the final events making up the "NHRA#The Countdown, Countdown to 1". Schedule Points standings *Drivers in bold have clinched the championship Mike Edwards last won a title in 1981 (Modified Class), the longest gap in NHRA history. The teams running a Dodge Stratus have been notified by the NHRA that body style, because of it is out of production for the past five years, will be illegal in 2010. Dodge teams must run the Avenger in 2010. Pro Stock Cars may be any approved car (Mustang, Cobalt, Avenger, GXP, GTO) from the past five years. NHRA
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is a governing body which sets rules in drag racing and hosts events all over the United States and Canada. With over 40,000 drivers in its rosters, the NHRA claims to be the largest motorsport sanctioning body in the world. The association was founded by Wally Parks in 1951 in California to provide a governing body to organize and promote the sport of drag racing. NHRA's first Nationals was held in 1955, in Great Bend, Kansas. The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, the national event series which comprises 24 races each year, is the premier series in drag racing that brings together the best drag racers from across North America and the world. The NHRA U.S. Nationals are now held at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana and are officially called the U.S. Nationals. Bandimere Speedway
Bandimere Speedway, also known by the NHRA as ''Thunder Mountain'', was a quarter-mile dragstrip located just outside Morrison, Colorado and Lakewood, Colorado. It opened in 1958 and was the host to many racing events, including many NHRA Nationals events. In April 2023, it was announced that Bandimere Speedway would be closed at the end of the 2023 season, with the intent to move the speedway elsewhere. History In the late 1950s, John Bandimere Sr. began to explore property in the Denver metropolitan area with the intent of constructing a drag strip to supplement the family auto-parts and machining business. After being met with stiff resistance from the community in nearby Wheat Ridge, Bandimere Sr. purchased property in 1957 along the Dakota Hogback and began building the motorsports facility. Brandon Bernstein
Brandon Bernstein (born August 2, 1972) is an American former drag racing driver. He is the son of NHRA legend Kenny Bernstein. Early life Bernstein was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 2, 1972, the son of six-time NHRA Champion Kenny Bernstein. He worked with his dad's racing team when he was a teenager. Bernstein attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology, specializing in Sports Management in 1996. Racing career In 2001, Bernstein competed in the NHRA Top Alcohol Series and eventually won Driver of the Year honors. Antron Brown (born March 1, 1976) is an American drag racing driver, currently driving the Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster for AB Motorsports in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series. Brown is the first African American champion in drag racing and motorsports history, winning the Top Fuel dragster championship in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2024. Larry Dixon (drag Racer)
Larry Dixon Jr. (born October 23, 1966) is an American former professional drag racer in the NHRA. Larry is the son of Larry Dixon Sr., who won Top Fuel Eliminator at the 1970 NHRA Winternationals. 1980s and 1990s Dixon's NHRA career began when he was a worker for a team owned by Larry Minor that had Gary Beck as driver. Dixon began his long friendship with Don "the Snake" Prudhomme in 1988 while working on Prudhomme's Funny Car. In 1994, he earned his Top Fuel license with 4.76-second pass at Gatornationals at Gainesville, Florida. In 1995, his rookie season, he earned Rookie of the Year honors. That season became third rookie to win $100,000 Budweiser Shootout, the first Top Fuel rookie to win at Indianapolis since Gary Beck in 1972 and set NHRA's elapsed time record at Englishtown. Memphis International Raceway (formerly known as Memphis Motorsports Park) was an auto racing park located near the Loosahatchie River in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, approximately ten miles south of Millington, and a few miles north of the city of Memphis. zMAX Dragway is a drag racing facility located in Concord, North Carolina, adjacent to the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Opened in 2008, the facility hosts a variety of racing events. Maple Grove Raceway
Maple Grove Raceway is a quarter-mile dragstrip located near Mohnton, Pennsylvania, just outside Reading. It opened in 1962 as a 1/5-mile dragstrip. It was eventually lengthened to its current quarter-mile length in 1964. The track has been sanctioned by the National Hot Rod Association for most of its existence. It has hosted an NHRA national event since 1985.
