The 2009 season was Molde's 2nd consecutive year in Tippeligaen, and their 33rd season in the top flight of Norwegian football. They competed in Tippeligaen where they finished in 2nd position and the Norwegian Cup where they were defeated by Aalesund in the Norwegian Cup Final. Molde Fotballklubb () is a association football, football club based in Molde Municipality, Molde, Norway, that competes in Eliteserien, the top flight of Norwegian football league system, Norwegian football. Founded on 19 June 1911, the club was originally known as International and changed its name to Molde in 1915. Molde are five-time league champions (2011, 2012, 2014, 2019 and 2022) and six-time Norwegian Cup winners (1994, 2005, 2013, 2014, 2022 and 2023), and have finished second in the league a further eleven times. Molde is one of only two Norwegian clubs to have participated in the UEFA Champions League. The club's home matches are played at the 11,249-capacity Aker Stadion. The stadium was inaugurated in 1998, and was a gift from local businessmen Kjell Inge Røkke and Bjørn Rune Gjelsten. Rune Ertsås (born 24 May 1987) is a retired Norway, Norwegian footballer who last played as a Forward (association football), forward for Steinkjer FK, Steinkjer. Brian Waltrip (born January 12, 1978) is an American former soccer player, who has played professionally in the United States, Finland, Portugal, Norway and Japan. Magne Hoseth (born Magne Hoset on 13 October 1980) is a Norwegian professional football manager and former player.
