2009 International Rally Of Nations
The International Rally of Nations is an international Demonstration (people), Rally event held in México for the first time in 2009. According to the organization, "the idea of this event is to bring the emotional side of the Olympic Games or the world cup to the automobile world with the possibility of several teams per country." The idea for the event came after the Rally Mexico was not included in the 2009 World Rally Championship season, 2009 World Rally Championship due to the rotation system. The event was won by Spain's Xavier Pons and Daniel Solà, with the two drivers amassing a total of 1067.5 points. Format This Rally has a special format since, unlike other rallies, time will not be added stage by stage. Each Special Stage will give points to the top 16 drivers. A team representing a nation will consist of two cars and the points scored by each driver will be added together to determine the Nations Champion. Brice Tirabassi (born 15 June 1977) is a French rally driver. He won the Junior World Rally Championship in 2003. Career Tirabassi won the French Rally Championship in 2002, before stepping up to the Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC) in 2003. He won three out of seven rounds to take the crown. Didier Auriol
Didier Auriol (born 18 August 1958) is a French former rally driver. Born in Montpellier, and initially an ambulance driver, he competed in the World Rally Championship throughout the 1990s. He became World Rally Champion in 1994, the first driver from his country to do so. He was a factory candidate for Lancia, Toyota and Peugeot among others, before losing his seat at Škoda at the end of 2003. His sister Nadine was also involved in rallying as a co-driver, while his brother Gerrard was also a former rally driver. Career At the age of 21, Auriol started rallying in an old Simca 1000. Toni Gardemeister (born 31 March 1975) is a Finnish professional rally driver in the World Rally Championship. After previously competing for SEAT's, Mitsubishi's, Škoda's and Ford's factory teams, as well as for privateer teams, he joined the Suzuki World Rally Team for the 2008 season. Career Early From the outset of his career Gardemeister had shown himself as a driver of some promise. Harri "Rovis" Rovanperä (; born 8 April 1966) is a Finnish rally driver who competed in the World Rally Championship from 1993 to 2006. He drove for SEAT (1997– 00), Peugeot (2001– 04), Mitsubishi (2005) and Red Bull Škoda Team (2006). Rovanperä was known as a loose surface specialist.
