2009 In Australian Television
This is a list of Australian television events and premieres which occurred in 2009. The year 2009 is the 54th year of continuous operation of television in Australia. It also marks the introduction of digital multichannels for the three commercial television networks (the Seven Network, the Nine Network and Network Ten), which were each able to launch an alternate standard-definition digital channel, separate from their primary channels, from 1 January. Network Ten launched their channel, One (later known today as 10 Bold), on 26 March, whilst the Nine Network launched kids and movies channel GO! (later known today as 9Go!) on 9 August, and the Seven Network launched catch-up channel 7Two on 1 November. Australian Idol
''Australian Idol'' is an Australian singing competition, which began its first season in July 2003 and ended its initial run in November 2009. As part of the ''Idol'' franchise, Australian Idol originated from the reality program '' Pop Idol'', which was created by British entertainment executive Simon Fuller. Australian Idol was televised on Network Ten for its first seven series and was broadcast on the Southern Cross Austereo Radio Network between 2005 and 2007. The series returned in 2023 after Seven Network announced they would be picking up the show. The 51st Annual TV Week Logie Awards was held on Sunday 3 May 2009 at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne, and broadcast on the Nine Network. The ceremony was hosted by Gretel Killeen, while the red carpet arrivals was hosted by Jules Lund, Shelley Craft, Lyndsey Rodrigues and Carson Kressley. Rebecca Catherine Gibney is a New Zealand actress known for her roles on Australian television in '' The Flying Doctors'', '' Halifax f.p.'', ''Packed to the Rafters'', ''Winter'' and '' Wanted''. ''So You Think You Can Dance Australia'' is an Australian version of the American reality dance competition ''So You Think You Can Dance''. So You Think You Can Dance Australia (season 2)
Season two of ''So You Think You Can Dance Australia'', the Australian version of the American reality dance-off series ''So You Think You Can Dance'', was hosted by former Rogue Traders vocalist and solo artist Natalie Bassingthwaighte, with Jason Coleman, Matt Lee and Bonnie Lythgoe acting as the judges. It premiered on 1 February 2009. Talia Fowler was announced as the winner on 26 April 2009. Auditions Auditions for the second season were held between September and November 2008 in Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. Judges hope that season 2 will see more contestants auditioning after the favourable response to the first season of the show. Australia's Got Talent (season 3)
''Australia's Got Talent'' is an Australian reality television show, based on the original UK series, to find new talent. The third season premiered on the Seven Network on 4 February 2009 and ended on 22 April 2009. The Grand Finale followed the same format as the 2008 one: acts were eliminated in pairs, as well as each judge picking their favourite act to reappear on the show once more. Mark Vincent won the season, while Jal Joshua became the runner-up. On the grand finale, international opera singer and winner of ''Britain's Got Talent'' series one, Paul Potts performed live in the studio.
