2009 Finnish Cup
Finnish Cup 2009 () was the 55th season of the main annual football (soccer) cup competition in Finland. It is organized as a single-elimination knock–out tournament. Participation in the competition is voluntary. Veikkausliiga side IFK Mariehamn, for example, decided not to register for the tournament, as well as some Ykkönen teams. A total of 356 teams registered for the competition. They entered in different rounds, depending on their position within the league system. Clubs with teams in Kolmonen (level IV) or an inferior league, as well as Veterans and Junior teams, started the competition in Round 1. Teams from Ykkönen (level II) and Kakkonen (level III) entered in Round 4. Veikkausliiga clubs started in Round 5 with the exception of FC Inter Turku, Inter Turku, FC Honka, FC Lahti and HJK Helsinki. Inter Turku
Football Club International Turku, commonly referred to as Inter Turku () and colloquially known as Inter, is a Finnish professional football club based in Turku that competes in the Veikkausliiga, the top flight of Finnish Football. Veikkausliiga 2008
The 2008 season of Veikkausliiga was the 78th season of top-tier football in Finland. It started on 27 April 2008 and ended on 26 October 2008. The defending champions were Tampere United. Promotion and relegation AC Oulu finished at the bottom of the 2007 season and therefore were relegated to Ykkönen. Their place was taken by Ykkönen champions KuPS. 13th placed Veikkausliiga team FC Viikingit and Ykkönen runners-up RoPS competed in a two-legged relegation play-offs for one spot in 2008 Veikkausliiga. RoPS won 2–1 on aggregate and therefore were promoted to Veikkausliiga. JoKi
Jokelan Kisa (abbreviated JoKi) is a sports club from Jokela, Finland. The club was formed in 1931 and in its early years specialised in athletics, gymnastics and skiing followed later by boxing, weight lifting and pesäpallo. Today the club has 4 sections covering skiing, football, volleyball and badminton. The men's football team currently plays in the Nelonen (Fourth Division) and their home ground is at the Jokelan kenttä. In total JoKi has around 450 members. HIFK Fotboll or IFK Helsingfors is the association football section of HIFK, a sports club based in Helsinki, Finland. The men's football team currently competes in the Kolmonen whereas the women's first team is in Naisten Kakkonen. Both teams use Väinämöisen kenttä in Töölö as their home ground. History Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna i Helsingfors was formed on 15 October 1897 by Georges Doubitsky, a 15-year-old student at the Svenska Reallyceum school in Helsinki. In the early years the club specialised in Athletics (sport), athletics, association football, football and bandy. The football section was established in 1907, the same year that the Football Association of Finland was founded. In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) has expired. For example, in a FIFA World Cup, penalties are used in elimination matches; the round of 32, the round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and the final. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different players; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. The 2010–11 UEFA Champions League was the 56th season of Europe's premier club football tournament organised by UEFA, and the 19th under the UEFA Champions League format. 2009–10 Copa Del Rey
The 2009–10 Copa del Rey was the 108th staging of the Copa del Rey (including two seasons where two rival editions were played). The competition began on 22 August 2009 and concluded on 19 May 2010 with the final held at the Camp Nou in Barcelona, in which Sevilla lifted the trophy for the fifth time in their history with a 2–0 victory over Atlético Madrid. The defending cup holders were Barcelona, but they were eliminated by Sevilla in the round of 16. The 2009–10 UEFA Europa League was the first season of the UEFA Europa League, Europe's secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA. The competition was previously known as the UEFA Cup, which had been in existence for 38 years.
