2009 Copa Libertadores
The 2009 Copa Libertadores de América (officially the 2009 Copa Santander Libertadores de América for sponsorship reasons) was the 50th edition of the Copa Libertadores de América, CONMEBOL's premier annual international club tournament. The tournament was won by Argentine club Estudiantes de La Plata, who achieved their fourth Copa Libertadores title and first in 39 years. Since the inception of a preliminary round in 2004, they are the first club to start in that round and win the Copa Libertadores. Estudiantes earned a berth to play in 2010 Recopa Sudamericana and in the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup but lost both titles to LDU Quito and Barcelona respectively. ( lit. "La Plata Students"), simply referred to as Estudiantes de La Plata, is an Argentine professional sports club based in La Plata. The club's football team currently competes in the Primera División, where it has spent most of its history. The club is a successful team in Argentina. The Copa do Brasil 2008 was the 20th staging of the Copa do Brasil, starting on February 13, 2008 and finishing on June 11, 2008. It was played by 64 teams, either qualified through their respected state championships (54) or by the CBF Rankings (10). The clubs that played the Copa Libertadores 2008 didn't participate in the Copa do Brasil 2008 because of scheduling problems. It was won by Sport-PE. Format The tournament was played in two-legged knockout stages. In the first two rounds the away team automatically goes through to the next round if they beat the home team by a 2-goal difference or more in the first leg. The away goals rule was used in the Copa do Brasil, which is an unusual feature when compared to other South American competitions. Club Real Potosí is a Bolivian football club based in Potosí. Founded on 1 April 1988, it plays in the Potosí Football Association Championship, after being relegated from the Bolivian Primera División in 2021, holding home games at Estadio Víctor Agustín Ugarte, with a 32,000-seat capacity. History Real Potosí was founded on 1 April 1988, as Fútbol Academy of Real Potosì. They subsequently merged with ''Banco Minero of Bolivia (Bamin)'', which was founded on 20 October 1941. The club played their first continental competition, the Copa Libertadores, in 2002. They were drawn with Peñarol of Uruguay, El Nacional of Ecuador, and San Lorenzo de Almagro of Argentina. Even though they came in last place, they beat San Lorenzo 1-0 and thrashed Peñarol 6-1.
