2009 Connecticut Sun Season
The 2009 WNBA season is the 11th season for the Connecticut Sun franchise of the Women's National Basketball Association. It is their seventh in Connecticut. The Sun attempted to advance to the WNBA Playoffs for the seventh consecutive season, but did not qualify for the postseason. Offseason Dispersal Draft Based on the Sun's 2008 record, they would pick 10th in the Houston Comets dispersal draft. The Sun waived their pick. Mike Thibault
Michael Francis Thibault (born September 28, 1950) is an American basketball head coach, formerly of the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA, and now of the Washington Mystics. In 2013, Thibault became the WNBA's all time most successful coach with 212 victories. Career Upon his graduation from Saint Martin's University in 1979, Thibault entered into the employ of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association, for whom he worked first as a scout and, after 1980, as director of scouting and as an assistant coach; during Thibault's tenure, the Lakers twice won the league championship. Ketia Swanier
Naketia Marie "Ketia" Swanier (born August 10, 1986) is an American professional basketball player born in Columbus, Georgia. She most recently played the guard position for the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA. College career Swanier was the only freshman to open the season as UConn's starting point guard. She finished her career as the only player in UConn history to rank among the top 10 career leaders in games played, assists and steals. Swanier won the inaugural Big East Sixth Man of the Year Award as a senior coming off the bench behind Renee Montgomery. Jamie Carey
Jamie Leigh Carey (born March 12, 1981 in Hutchinson, Kansas) is a former professional basketball player, playing the point guard position for the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA until her retirement in 2009. Carey currently serves as the Assistant Director of the USA National Team. High School years Carey attended Horizon High School in Thornton, Colorado. Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis, playing in the Eastern Conference in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The team was founded before the 2000 season began. The team is owned by Herb Simon, who also owns the Fever's NBA counterpart, the Indiana Pacers, and Simon Malls. The Fever has qualified for the WNBA Playoffs in 13 of its 21 seasons in Indiana. The Washington Mystics are an American professional basketball team based in Washington, D.C. Kiesha Brown (born January 13, 1979) is an American professional basketball player. High school Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Brown attended Woodward Academy in Atlanta, where she was named a High School All-American by the WBCA. Anete Jēkabsone-Žogota
Anete Jēkabsone-Žogota (born August 12, 1983) is a former Latvian basketball player. She ended her career in 2016. She is a daughter of former VEF Rīga star player Andris Jēkabsons. Jēkabsone-Žogota played for Dynamo Moscow. She joined the club in 2006–07 season after Ainārs Zvirgziņš was named head coach of the team. Before that she played for USO Mondeville and CJM Bourges Basket, both which are teams from France. In 2007, Jēkabsone-Žogota played for the Latvia women's national basketball team in EuroBasket Women 2007. It was her second finals, where Jēkabsone-Žogota was the second-leading scorer behind Belgium's Ann Wauters with 17.2 points per game. Kerri Gardin
Kerri Gardin (born May 19, 1984) is an American professional basketball player. She most recently played the forward position for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. College career Gardin was born in Burke County, North Carolina. As a Senior at Freedom High School she led her team to the 2002 North Carolina 4A girls state championship and was named North Carolina Miss Basketball for the 2001–02 season. At Virginia Tech, Gardin led her Hokies to four consecutive NCAA appearances. As a senior, she averaged a double-double with 12.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Her performance at the university led to her induction into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame. Kristen Rasmussen
Kristen Rasmussen (born November 1, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player in the WNBA, also playing for CSS LMK BC Sepsi of Sfântu Gheorghe, Romania. Born in Lansing, Michigan, Rasmussen attended college at Michigan State University and graduated in 2000. While playing for the Spartans, Rasmussen set the school record for blocked shots with 194. She averaged 12.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in her career. Following her college days, Rasmussen was drafted in the 4th round (51st Overall) in the 2000 WNBA Draft by the Utah Starzz. She appeared in just 1 game with Utah before being released and signed by the Miami Sol, where she remained through the 2002 season.
