2008–09 Toto Cup Al
The 2008–09 Toto Cup Al was the twenty-seventh season of the third most important football tournament in Israel since its introduction and fifth under the current format. It was held in two stages. First, twelve Premier League teams were divided into three groups. The winners and runners-up, as well as two best third placed teams from each group, advanced to the Quarterfinals. Quarterfinals and Semifinals were held as two-legged matches, while the Final was one-legged match held at Ramat Gan Stadium. The defending champions were Maccabi Haifa. Maccabi Tel Aviv won the 2008–09 Toto Cup Al making it their third Toto Cup title overall. Group stage The matches were played from August 8 to November 12, 2008. Toto Cup
The Israel Toto Cup (, ''Gvia Ha'Toto'') is an association football tournament that features clubs in the two highest divisions in Israel: the Israeli Premier League Ligat ha'Al, Ligat Ha'Al; and the Israeli 2nd division Liga Leumit. Both of these leagues are featured separately for the Israel Toto Cup – at a distinct seasonal tournament for each of these two. They are simply referred to as ''Toto Cup Al'' and ''Toto Cup Leumit'', in many global media outlets. From 1999 to 2009, the tournament was also open to clubs from the Liga Artzit, third division, until the cancellation of Liga Artzit. David Revivo
David Revivo (; born 5 December 1977) is a former Israeli footballer. He is the second-greatest goal-assist provider in Israel's history with 104 assists in the Israeli Premier League. Career The younger brother of Haim Revivo, he too was recognized early in his youth for having a great footballing potential and joined the youth system of Maccabi Tel Aviv. Later he transferred to his hometown of Ashdod. After six seasons in Ashdod, Revivo finished his contract and went on trial at Los Angeles Galaxy in the American Major League. According to media reports in Israel, Revivo impressed manager Steve Sampson but was not offered a contract because Sampson was sacked shortly after Revivo had returned to Israel. Idan Shriki
Idan Shriki (; born 30 November 1981) is an Israeli former professional footballer who played as a forward. Career Club He made his Ashdod debut in the 2003–04 season against Maccabi Netanya after returning from a one-season loan to Maccabi Yavne where he scored a league leading 25 goals. It wasn't until the 2006–07 season that Shriki received considerable playing time and he returned the favor to manager Alon Hazan by scoring eleven goals and adding three assists. Ramat Gan
Ramat Gan (, ) is a city in the Tel Aviv District of Israel, located east of the municipality of Tel Aviv, and is part of the Gush Dan, Gush Dan metropolitan area. It is home to a Diamond Exchange District (one of the world's major diamond exchanges), Sheba Medical Center (the largest hospital in Israel) and many high-tech industries. Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) has expired. For example, in a FIFA World Cup, penalties are used in elimination matches; the round of 32, the round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and the final. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals " away from home" wins the tiebreaker. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total.
