2008–09 Swiss Cup
The 2008–09 Swiss Cup was the 84th season of Switzerland's annual cup competition. It began on 20 September with the first games of Round 1 and ended on 20 May 2009 with the Final held at Stade de Suisse, Berne. The winners earned a place in the UEFA Europa League 2009–10#Play-off round, play-off round of the UEFA Europa League. FC Basel were the defending champions. Participating clubs Nine 2008–09 Swiss Super League, Super League teams (FC Vaduz are from Liechtenstein and thus play in the 2008–09 Liechtenstein Cup) and all sixteen 2008–09 Swiss Challenge League, Challenge League clubs entered this year's competition, as well as thirteen teams from Swiss 1. FC Sion
Football Club de Sion, commonly known as simply FC Sion or Sion, is a Swiss football team from the city of Sion. The club was founded in 1909, and play their home matches at the Stade Tourbillon. La Chaux-de-Fonds was founded on July 4, 1894, and won the Swiss first division in the seasons 1954, 1955, 1964. The team's most recent spell in the top division was 1986–87. FC Gossau is a Swiss football club from the city of Gossau in the canton of St. Gallen. It currently plays in the Challenge League, the second-highest level of Swiss football. History After its foundation in 1906, FC Gossau spent the first 65 years of its history in almost entire unimportance. This changed in 1971 when they advanced for the first time to the 1.
