Dunfermline (; sco, Dunfaurlin, gd, Dùn Phàrlain) is a city, parish and former Royal Burgh, in Fife, Scotland, on high ground from the northern shore of the Firth of Forth. The city currently has an estimated population of 58,508. According to the National Records of Scotland, the Greater Dunfermline area has a population of 76,210. The earliest known settlements in the area around Dunfermline probably date as far back as the Neolithic period. The area was not regionally significant until at least the Bronze Age. Steven Craig (born 5 February 1981) is a retired Scottish professional footballer. He is currently assistant manager of Gala Fairydean Rovers. Simon George Lynch (born 19 May 1982) is a former professional footballer, who played for clubs in Scotland, England, and Australia. Born in Canada, he played for the Scotland U21 national team at international level. Club career Early career Lynch, who was born in Montreal but moved to Scotland as a child, started his career at Celtic and managed three goals in five appearances (his father, Andy Lynch, captained Celtic in the 1970s). A highlight was scoring a brace in a 4–1 win at Hearts in April 2002. He turned down an improved contract offer from Celtic to join Preston North End in January 2003 for £130,000. Patrick Clarke (born 18 May 1985) is a retired Scottish footballer who plays as a forward. Clarke started his career with Dunfermline Athletic who he played for over two spells. He has also played for Raith Rovers, Cowdenbeath, Clyde, Dundee and East Fife, as well as Berwick Rangers and Arbroath on loan. Steven Milne (born 5 May 1980) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a striker for Dundee, Forfar Athletic, Plymouth Argyle, St Johnstone, Ross County and Arbroath. Andrew Robert Kirk (born 29 May 1979) is a Northern Irish former professional footballer and the current manager of Brechin City, in the Highland League. Leigh Griffiths (born 20 August 1990) is a Scottish professional footballer who most recently played as a striker for Australian club Mandurah City. Griffiths started his career at Livingston where he made his debut as a sixteen-year-old. He then moved to Dundee in 2009 for £125,000.
