2008–09 Primera Divisió
The 2008–09 Primera Divisió was the fourteenth season of top-tier football in Andorra. It began on 21 September 2008 and ended on 7 May 2009. FC Santa Coloma were the defending champions. Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent once home and once away for a total of 14 games. The league was then split up in two groups of four teams with each of them playing teams within their group a home-and-away cycle of games. The top four teams competed for the championship. The bottom four clubs played out one direct relegation spot and one relegation play-off spot. Records earned in the First Round were taken over to the respective Second Rounds. Promotion and relegation Casa Estrella del Benfica were relegated after the last season due to finishing in 8th place. They were replaced by Segona Divisió champions UE Santa Coloma. Primera Divisió
The Primera Divisió (First Division) or Lliga Multisegur Assegurances for sponsorship reasons, is the top level of men's football in Andorra. The league was launched in 1995 sponsored by the local federation (Andorran Football Federation) which was created just one year before. Until then, clubs had played since 1970 in an amateur league without a structure or affiliation with any official institution. Since affiliation to UEFA and FIFA in 1996, Andorran clubs are able to compete in the UEFA competitions. Until 2015 the league was known as ''Lliga Grup Becier'' and during 2016 ''Lliga Grup Sant Eloi''. It was renamed in 2017 as Lliga Multisegur Assegurances for sponsorship reasons. All the teams in the league play in the same stadiums owned by the federation. The same occurs in all other Andorran competitions, such as the Copa Constitució and Supercopa. UE Extremenya
UE Extremenya is an Andorran football club based in the parish of La Massana. The club currently plays in Segona Divisió. History The club was founded in 1998 as CE Cerni. The club played the 1998–99 Campionat de Lliga, being relegated to the Segona Divisió at the end of the season. They stayed in the Second Division until the coming back in the top flight during the 2002–03 season. The club was relegated after finishing 8th at the end of the regular season. The club suffered another relegation to the Second Division for the 2005–06 season after one year in the top division. The 2005–06 season in the Andorran Premier League was a catastrophe with only one point in 20 games (1–1 at home against CE Principat on 12 February 2006). Segona Divisió
The Segona Divisió (Second Division), or Lliga UNIDA for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest level of men's football in Andorra. Former FC Santa Coloma reserve team were renamed UE Santa Coloma for 2007–08 (therefore eligible for promotion) and finally gained access to the Primera Divisió after finishing top place. Penya Encarnada d'Andorra are the current holders, having won the 2021–22 title and earning promotion to the Primera Divisió. Atlètic Club d'Escaldes, also commonly known as Atlètic d'Escaldes, is an Andorran football club based in Escaldes-Engordany, currently playing in Primera Divisió. History Atlètic Club d'Escaldes was founded on 20 May 2002 in Escaldes-Engordany joining Segona Divisió the same year. At the end of 2003–04 season the club was promoted to Primera Divisió. During three seasons the club was playing in the top flight until 2006–07 season when it was relegated to Segona Divisió. Inter Club d'Escaldes is an Andorran football club based in Escaldes-Engordany. The club currently plays in Primera Divisió. Club Esportiu Principat was an Andorran football club created in 1989, based in the city of Andorra la Vella. Was one of the most successful football clubs in Andorra along with FC Santa Coloma and UE Sant Julià, having won three times the Andorran Premier League and five times the Andorran Cup. FC Lusitanos, also known as Lusitans, was an Andorran football club from Andorra la Vella which was founded in 1999 and currently play in Segona Divisió. Lusitanos won their first Primera Divisió title in 2011–12 and its second national championship the following season. The club's name, crest and kit reflect its Portuguese identity.
