The 2008 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship was held March 8–15, 2008 in Vierumäki, Finland at the Vierumäki Ice Rink. Vierumäki Ratapiha. Vierumäki is a village located in the Finnish municipality Heinola in the region Päijät-Häme, Finland. There are about 900–1,000 inhabitants. Sean Becker
Sean Peter Becker (born 7 July 1975 in Ranfurly) is a New Zealand curler. Career Becker was the skip for New Zealand teams which won three Pacific Curling Championships in 1998, 2003, and 2004. He has also played for the New Zealand team in five World Men's Championships, skipping the team at the 1999 (0-9; 10th), the 2004 (3-6; 7th), and the 2005 World Men's Curling Championship(5-6; 8th). He also played third for New Zealand at the 2001 (2-7; 9th) and 2012 World Men's Curling Championships (7-5; 5th). He represented New Zealand at the 2006 Winter Olympics as the team's skip. He was the only member of the New Zealand team to be originally from New Zealand. Marju Velga
Marju (Chinese: 馬足; 12 March 1988 – 11 October 2016) was a Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Background Marju was a dark bay or brown horse bred by Kilcarn Stud and owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum. He was sired by Last Tycoon out of Flame of Tara. He was a half-brother to Group One winner Salsabil. Racing career Trained by John Dunlop, Marju raced 7 times during his career and was ridden by Willie Carson each time. He won 3 races including the Craven Stakes and the St. James's Palace Stakes, as well as finishing second to Generous in the 1991 Epsom Derby. He won a total prize money of £282,640. Stud record Retired to stud duty, Marju sired a number of stakes winners including the Soviet Song, My Emma, Sil Sila, Satono Crown, Viva Pataca and Indigenous. He is the damsire of Ramonti. Dean Ross
Dean Ross (born c. 1963) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. He was the first man to represent Canada at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships. In 2007, Ross and teammates Susan O'Connor, Tim Krassman and Susan Wright represented Alberta at the 2008 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. After finishing the round robin with a 10–1 record, the Calgary-based rink defeated Ontario's Bob Turcotte to win the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. After some speculation as to who would represent Canada at the inaugural 2008 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, the Canadian Curling Association selected Ross and O'Connor to represent the country. Ross and O'Connor finished with a 5–2 record in their group, but lost to Finland in their second semi-final challenge game, and did not win a medal. Susan O'Connor (born May 3, 1977) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. She is an Olympic silver medallist. Career In 2000, O'Connor played third for Kevin Koe at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. The team, which also included Greg Northcott and Lawnie MacDonald, won the championship. In 2007, O'Connor won her first provincial championship playing third for Cheryl Bernard, and represented Team Alberta at the 2007 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. They again represented Alberta at the Scotties in 2009. At the 2008 Canadian Mixed Championship, O'Connor played third for Dean Ross, and won her second Mixed title with team mates Tim Krassman and Susan Wright.
