Conference League (speedway)
The Conference League was the third and lowest division of motorcycle speedway racing in the United Kingdom governed by the The Speedway Control Board, Speedway Control Board (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). The other leagues being the Elite League (speedway), Elite League and Premier League (speedway), Premier League. The League consisted of eight teams for the 2008 season. The Buxton Hitmen were a motorcycle speedway team in the British National League (speedway), National League (formerly the Conference League (speedway), Conference League) from 1994 to 2018. The club stopped racing in the National League after the 2018 speedway season. History Origins & 1990s In 1994, a team called Hi-Edge Hitmen began racing on the Buxton Raceway. Promoted by Barry Watson and former England rider Chris Morton, the team's inaugural season was in the 1994 British League Division Three in which they finished in sixth place. The following year they finished third in the 1995 Academy League before joining the Conference League (speedway), Conference League (division 3). Darcy Stephen Ward (born 4 May 1992 in Nanango, Queensland) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Australia. He won the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Australian Under-21 Championships as well as the 2009 and 2010 World Under-21 Championships. Career history Junior career Darcy Ward started his speedway career as a junior in his native Queensland. Rye House Stadium
Rye House Stadium was a speedway and greyhound racing venue in Rye Road, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, England. It is situated adjacent to the River Lea Navigation. Origins The name Rye House originates from a collection of medieval buildings on an area known as the Isle of Rye due to the fact that the land was directly next door to the River Lea/Lee and in particular the Lee Navigation. When the stadium was constructed in 1934 it was put next door to Rye House on a spare plot which is where the name for the stadium came from. Rye House had been the family home for the Parr family that included Catherine in the 16th century and later a workhouse and tourist attraction in the 19th century. All that remains today of the original Rye House is the gatehouse found to the north of the stadium. The Scunthorpe Scorpions are a motorcycle speedway team in the British SGB Championship. They have raced at various times since 1971, at three different venues. History Origins and 1970s Speedway in Scunthorpe began on 3 May 1971 at the Quibell Park Stadium (an athletics stadium and velodrome). The inaugural season consisted primarily of a team known as the Scunthorpe Saints, who raced a series of challenge meetings at the stadium.
