2008 NASCAR Camping World West Series
The 2008 NASCAR Camping World West Series was the 55th season of Camping World West Series, a regional stock car racing series sanctioned by NASCAR. It began with the Toyota/NAPA Auto Care 150 at All-American Speedway on March 29, 2008, and concluded with the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 by Thunder Valley, again at All-American Speedway, on October 25, 2008. Eric Holmes won the championship, 48 points in front of Jason Bowles. This was Holmes' second championship after his first came in 2006. He would go on to win a third championship in 2010, ironically meaning that he won a title every other year in this span of five years. The 2008 season also was the first with Camping World as the title sponsor of the series, the first for the series since Autozone sponsored the tour in 2006. The ARCA Menards Series West, formerly the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, NASCAR AutoZone West Series, NASCAR Winston West Series, NASCAR Winston Transcontinental Series and NASCAR Camping World West Series, is a regional stock car racing series owned and operated by the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) and the NASCAR, National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). The series was first formed in 1954 as a proving ground for drivers from the western United States who could not travel to race in the more traditional stock car racing regions like North Carolina and the rest of the southern United States. In 1954, the series was formed under the name Pacific Coast Late Model circuit, with nine races on the schedule. Brian Ickler (born September 17, 1985) is an American former professional stock car racing driver. Racing career Early career Ickler started in off-road racing when he was 14 years old. At 17, he was SCORE rookie of the year, Lite champion, and the winner of the SCORE Baja 1000, Baja 500, and San Felipe 250. In 2005, Ickler raced his first year on an oval track at Irwindale Speedway in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Super Late Model Division. In his rookie season, he earned his first win in the NASCAR Hot Wheels 200.
