The 2008 Italian general election took place on 13–14 April 2008. The election was won in Friuli-Venezia Giulia by the centre-right coalition between The People of Freedom and Lega Nord, as it happened at the national level. The People of Freedom was the largest party in the election with 34.7%, ahead of the Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party (31.4%) and Lega Nord (13.0%). 2008 Italian General Election
A snap election was held in Italy on 13–14 April 2008. The election came after President of Italy, President Giorgio Napolitano dissolved the Italian Parliament on 6 February 2008, following the 2008 Italian political crisis, defeat of the government of Prime Minister of Italy, Prime Minister Romano Prodi in a January 2008 Senate of the Republic (Italy), Senate vote of confidence and the unsuccessful tentative appointment of Franco Marini with the aim to change the current electoral law. Under Italian law, elections must be held within 70 days of the dissolution. The voting determined the leader of Italy's 62nd government since the end of World War II.
