Tomáš Berdych was the defending champion, but lost in the second round to Robin Söderling. Roger Federer won in the final 6–3, 6–4, against Philipp Kohlschreiber. It was Federer's record-extending fifth singles title in Halle, after previously winning four consecutive titles (2003–06) and skipping the tournament in 2007 due to fatigue. He did not lose a single set in the entire tournament and, in the process, extended his record grass court winning streak to 59 matches. Rainer Schüttler
Rainer Schüttler (; born 25 April 1976) is a German former professional tennis player. Schüttler was the runner-up at the 2003 Australian Open and a semifinalist at the 2008 Wimbledon Championships. Andreas Beck (; born 5 February 1986) is a German former professional tennis player. He achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 33 in November 2009. As a qualifier, Beck reached the quarterfinals of the 2009 Monte Carlo Masters. Mischa Zverev
Mikhail "Mischa" Alexandrovich Zverev. (born 22 August 1987) is a German retired professional tennis player. He achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 25 on 24 July 2017. He reached a career-high Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world No. 7 singles ranking in May 2002. Julien Henry Guy Benneteau-Desgrois (; born 20 December 1981) is a French retired professional tennis player. He achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 25 and doubles ranking of No. 5 in November 2014.
