2008 Deutschland Tour
The 2008 Deutschland Tour road cycling race took place from August 29 to September 6, 2008, in Germany and Austria. It was won by Team Columbia's Linus Gerdemann of Germany. It was the 32nd edition of the Deutschland Tour, and the last edition until the race's revival in 2018. 2008 UCI ProTour
The 2008 UCI ProTour is the fourth year of the Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI UCI ProTour, ProTour system. Following protracted disagreement between the organisers of the Grand Tours (ASO, RCS and Unipublic) and the UCI, all races organized by ASO, RCS and Unipublic were withdrawn from the ProTour calendar. This removed all three Grand Tours (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España), four of the five Classic cycling races, monuments (Milan–San Remo, Paris–Roubaix, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and Giro di Lombardia) and four further races (Paris–Nice, Tirreno–Adriatico, La Flèche Wallonne and Paris–Tours). As such, the quality of the races of the ProTour was diminished. The Australian race, the Tour Down Under was added to the calendar, making it the first race outside Europe on the ProTour (although races had previously been held outside Europe as part of the UCI Road World Cup). Jussi Veikkanen
Jussi Veikkanen (born 29 March 1981) is a Finnish former road racing cyclist, who rode as a professional between 2005 and 2015 for the and teams. He won the Finnish National Road Race Championships seven times between 2003 and 2014. Career Born in Riihimäki, Veikkanen started his career with team Mälarenergi and he became a professional cyclist in 2005 with . After a long breakaway on stage 2 of the 2009 Tour de France he donned the polka-dot jersey as the leader of the mountains classification. He kept the jersey until stage 6, when Stéphane Augé took it. He signed with for the 2011 season, but rejoined for the 2012 season. Rubens Bertogliati
Rubens Bertogliati (born 9 May 1979 in Lugano) is a Swiss retired road racing cyclist, whose breakthrough came in the 2002 Tour de France, when he was riding for the Italian team. In 2012, he rode for , and ended his career at the end of the season. Bertogliati won the first stage of the Tour, which took place in the hilly country of Luxembourg. The victory also earned him the yellow jersey as leader of the general classification. He kept the jersey after stage two, when he finished in 29th position. After the third stage, German sprinter Erik Zabel took the leader's yellow jersey from Bertogliati. Bertogliati's first win came a few months earlier at the GP Chiasso, but it was his efforts in July that made him famous. He started his career as a professional with the team in 2000. Robbie McEwen (born 24 June 1972) is an Australian former professional road cyclist. He is a three-time winner of the Tour de France points classification in 2002, 2004 & 2006 and, at the peak of his career, was considered the world's fastest sprinter. André Greipel (born 16 July 1982) is a German cyclist, who rode professionally in road bicycle racing between 2005 and 2021.
