2008 Canadian Senior Curling Championships
The 2008 Canadian Senior Curling Championships were held March 22–30 at the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The winning teams represented Canada at the 2009 World Senior Curling Championships. Team Saskatchewan, consisting of Eugene Hritzuk, Kevin Kalthoff, Verne Anderson and Dave Folk won the men's event, defeating New Brunswick's Russ Howard rink in the final. Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
Prince Albert is the third-largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada, after Saskatoon and Regina. It is situated near the centre of the province on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. The city is known as the "Gateway to the North" because it is the last major centre along the route to the resources of northern Saskatchewan. Prince Albert National Park is located north of the city and contains a wealth of lakes, forest, and wildlife. The city itself is located in a transition zone between the aspen parkland and boreal forest biomes. Prince Albert is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Prince Albert No. 461, of which it is the seat, but is politically separate. Bruce Delaney
Bruce Delaney (born c. 1954) is a Canadian curler from Ottawa. Delaney is a six-time Silver Tankard winner (1980, 1984, 1986, 1987, 2007, 2010), representing various clubs in Eastern Ontario, but usually representing the Navy Curling Club in Ottawa. He has won the annual City of Ottawa men's bonspiel Grand Aggregate Championship several times. Delaney was a competitive curler in Ontario in the 1970s and 1980s, but never made it to the Brier, Canada's national championship. He came the closest in 1986, when he lost the Labatt's Tankard provincial final against Russ Howard, playing third for Wayne Tallon. Delaney has found more success as a senior (50+) curler, and is a 3 time provincial senior champion. His Navy rink of George Mitchell, Duncan Jamieson, and Rick Bachand won titles in 2006, 2008 and 2009. Paul Hunter (curler)
Paul Alan Hunter (14 October 1978 – 9 October 2006) was an English professional snooker player. He was a three-time Masters champion, winning the event in 2001, 2002, and 2004, recovering from a deficit in the final to win 10–9 on all three occasions. He also won three ranking events: the Welsh Open in 1998 and 2002, and the British Open in 2002. During the 2004–05 snooker season, he attained a career-high ranking of number four in the world. In March 2005, Hunter was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumours, but continued to play for several months afterwards. He died shortly before his 28th birthday in October 2006. In his memory, a tournament in Fürth, Germany, was renamed the Paul Hunter Classic and, in April 2016, the Masters trophy was renamed the Paul Hunter Trophy.
