The 2008 CIS Men's University Cup Hockey Tournament (46th Annual) was held March 20–23, 2008, at the Jean-Louis Lévesque Arena in Moncton, New Brunswick. The Moncton Aigles Bleus served as tournament host. Road to the Cup AUS playoffs OUA playoffs Canada West playoffs University Cup The six teams that advanced to the tournament are listed below. The Champions of each conference tournament received automatic bids and were seeded 1–3. One spot in the tournament was reserved for the host school, Moncton, while another went to the best team from the Quebec region, OUA finalist Brock. The lone wild card spot went to the highest-ranked remaining team, Saskatchewan. Laurier Golden Hawks Men's Ice Hockey
The Laurier Golden Hawks men's ice hockey team (formerly the Waterloo Ice Mules and Waterloo Lutheran Golden Hawks) is an active ice hockey program representing the Laurier Golden Hawks athletic department of Wilfrid Laurier University. The team has been continually active since the early 1960s and is currently a member of the Ontario University Athletics conference under the authority of U Sports. The Golden Hawks play at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex in Waterloo, Ontario. Regina Cougars Men's Ice Hockey
The Regina Cougars men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Regina Cougars athletics program of University of Regina. The team is a member of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association conference and compete in U Sports. The Cougars play their home games at The Co-operators Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan. History Shortly after the school split from its parent university, the University of Saskatchewan, Regina began sponsoring varsity ice hockey. Instead of joining with the Huskies in Canada West, the Cougars became members of the more geographically-appropriate Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). Regina hit the ground running, finishing as runners-up in their first season and then winning the league title in only their second season. Calgary Dinos Men's Ice Hockey
The Calgary Dinos men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Calgary Dinos athletics program of University of Calgary. The team is a member of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association conference and compete in U Sports. The Dinos play their home games at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary, Alberta. History Shortly before it was renamed as the 'University of Calgary', the Dinos ice hockey team hit the ice for the first time. For their inaugural season in 1964–65, the team joined the Western Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Association (WCIAA), alongside its parent institution, Alberta. They did so in part due to the temporary loss of British Columbia as a league member in order to keep the conference as a viable outfit. Canada West Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The Canada West men's ice hockey tournament is an annual conference championship held between member teams. The tournament champion received an automatic bid to participate in the University Cup tournament. History In 1972, the Western Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Association (WCIAA) decided to divide itself into two separate conferences due to the sizable area that the conference covered. The Great Plains Athletic Association (GPAA) was created for eastern schools while the western colleges were placed in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA). Originally a five-team league, the conference was soon down to four members when Victoria dropped its program in 1973. 1984 saw the conference expanded for the first time, adding Lethbridge to the league roster. Queen's Golden Gaels Men's Ice Hockey
The Queen's Gaels men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Queen's Gaels athletics program of Queen's University at Kingston. The team is a member of the Ontario University Athletics conference and compete in U Sports. The Gaels play their home games at the Memorial Centre Arena in Kingston, Ontario. History 19th century The earliest recorded game for Queen's came in 1884 but its unclear if the match was officially sanctioned by the University or not. In 1886, a group of students from Queen's arranged a match against fellow undergraduates from the Royal Military College. UQTR Patriotes Men's Ice Hockey
The UQTR Patriotes men's ice hockey team is an active ice hockey team representing the UQTR Patriotes athletics program of Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. The team is a member of the Ontario University Athletics conference and competes in U Sports. The Patriotes play their home games at the Colisée Jean-Guy Talbot in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. History From the very foundation of the university in 1969, UQTR has sponsored ice hockey as a varsity sport. Initially a member of the Ottawa–St. Lawrence Conference (OSLC), the Patriotes were placed in the Quebec Universities Athletic Association (QUAA) in 1971 when four separate conferences were realigned into two provincial leagues for teams in Quebec and Ontario.
