2007–08 National First Division
The 2007–08 National First Division was the 12th season of the National First Division, the second tier of South African soccer. Due to a lack of sponsorship, the previously national league was split into two streams, a coastal stream and an inland stream, with the winners of each meeting in a final. The champions were Maritzburg United, who were promoted to the South African Premier Division in their first season in the second tier following relegation from the 2006–07 Premier Soccer League, alongside play-off victors Bay United. Ga-Rankuwa United and Western Province United were relegated to the SAFA Second Division. Inland Stream champions FC AK were initially found guilty of bribery and docked 15 points, but after a protracted appeals process, the sanction was reversed, and FC AK took their place in the championship final. Harry Gwala Stadium
Harry Gwala Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Premier Soccer League club Maritzburg United. In 2008 the stadium had a capacity of 10,000, but around September 2009 it was upgraded to 12,000 seats. The reason for this, was an urgent need for more high capacity stadiums in the region, particular being requested as part of the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup. The stadium, was initially planned to be able to seat 20,000 supporters, but the municipality revealed, that with the funds at their disposal, the stadium will have a capacity of just 12,000. Eldorado Park is a suburb of Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. It is located in Region G of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Fadluraghman "Fadlu" Davids (born 21 May 1981 in Cape Town, Western Cape) is a retired South African football (soccer) striker who last played for Premier Soccer League club Maritzburg United. He was twice the highest goalscorer in the South African National First Division. Since his retirement in 2012 Davids has served as assistant coach to Ernst Middendorp at Maritzburg United. When Middendorp left Martizburg United in 2016, Davids was named interim coach of Maritzburg for a third time in his career. His brother, Maahier Davids, was named as his assistant. FC AK is a South African football club from the West Rand, Johannesburg which was established in 2006. Although the club has been playing its home fixtures at the Eldorado Park Stadium, the club relocated to its place of origin in March 2013.
