2007–08 Maltese First Division
The 2007–08 Maltese First Division (known as 2007–08 BOV First Division for sponsorship reasons) started on October 9, 2007 and ended on May 23, 2008. Marsa and St. George's were the teams which were relegated from the 2006–07 Maltese Premier League. Dingli Swallows and Mellieha were the promoted teams from the 2006–07 Maltese Second Division. Tarxien Rainbows finished as champions and were promoted to the 2008–09 Maltese Premier League. They were joined with Qormi, who won a play-off with Mosta 4-3 on penalties, following a 0-0 draw. The play-off was necessary because the two teams finished level on points. Mellieħa and Marsa were relegated to the 2008–09 Maltese Second Division. Mellieha had just been promoted but went straight down. Marsa suffered two straight relegations, having been relegated from the Premier League. Maltese First Division
The Maltese Challenge League (referred to as the BOV Challenge League for sponsorship reasons) is the second-highest division in Maltese football, behind the Maltese Premier League. The First Division was the precursor of the present Premier League until the latter was revamped for the 1980–81 season with the Maltese Challenge League instituted for the 2020–21 season following the premature end of the previous season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Format Since the 2022–23 season, the league is made up of eighteen teams. Over the course of the season, each team plays twice against the others in the league, resulting in each team completing thirty-four games in total. Senglea Athletic F
Senglea ( mt, L-Isla ), also known by its title Città Invicta (or Civitas Invicta), is a fortified city in the South Eastern Region of Malta. It is one of the Three Cities in the Grand Harbour area, the other two being Cospicua and Vittoriosa, and has a population of approximately 2,720 people. The city's title Città Invicta was given because it managed to resist the Ottoman invasion at the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. The name Senglea comes from the Grand Master who built it Claude de la Sengle and gave the city a part of his name. While Senglea is the 52nd most populated locality on the island, due to its incredibly small land area, it is the 2nd most densely populated locality after Sliema. Anthony Eviparker
Anthony Eviparker is a Nigerian footballer and coach who has played competitively in Israel, Malta and Germany. He aided the Vittoriosa Stars' 2009 promotion to the Premier League. Eviparker has stated that Nigeria should not be circumspect in promoting the Nigeria Professional Football League and that they should "upgrade the footballers' profile". The Maltese Second Division 2007–08 (known as BOV Second Division 2007–08 due to sponsorship reasons) started on 21 September 2007 and ended on 18 May 2008. San Gwann and Naxxar Lions were relegated from 2006–07 Maltese First Division.The promoted teams from 2006–07 Maltese Third Division were Mgarr United, Sirens and Zurrieq.The league was won by San Gwann.They finished on 47 points, level with Balzan Youths and Rabat Ajax.They were declared champions for their superior goal difference. Balzan Youths and Rabat Ajax had to play a promotion play-off for the team to get promoted. The play-off was won 3-0 by Rabat Ajax. At the other end Sirens and Zurrieq were relegated while Mgarr United had to play the relegation playoffs with four teams from the Third Division. Mqabba ( mt, L-Imqabba) is a town in the Southern Region of Malta. It has a traditional Maltese village layout, with a population of about 3,300 inhabitants. Hamrun (; ) is a town in the Southern Region of Malta, with a population of 9,244 as of March 2014. The people The townspeople are traditionally known as ''Tas-Sikkina'' (literally meaning 'of the knife' or 'those who carry a knife') or as ''Ta' Werwer'' (which literally means 'those who scare' or more colloquially, 'the scary ones'). This appellation could stem from the fact that a considerable number of used to work as stevedores on the docks and thus carried a knife at all times. Żabbar ( mt, Ħaż-Żabbar, ), also known as Città Hompesch, is a city in the South Eastern Region of Malta. It is the sixth largest city in the country, with a population of 15,404 as of March 2014. Originally a part of Żejtun, Żabbar was granted the title of ''Città Hompesch'' by the last of the Grand Masters of the Order of St. John to reign in Malta, Ferdinand von Hompesch zu Bolheim.
