2007–08 Maltese FA Trophy
The 2007–08 Maltese FA Trophy (known as U*BET FA Trophy for sponsorship reasons) was the 70th season since its establishment. It featured 20 teams from Maltese Premier League and First Division. The competition started on 3 November 2007 and ended on 24 May 2008 with the final, which Birkirkara F.C. won 2–1 against Hamrun Spartans. Hibernians were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Valletta. Calendar Results When the draw was conducted four teams received a bye to the Quarterfinals. Hibernians received a bye because they won the 2006–07 Maltese FA Trophy. Other three teams who received a bye directly to the Quarterfinals were Birkirkara, Marsaxlokk and Sliema Wanderers, for being three best-placed teams in previous year's Premier League. Tarxien Rainbows F
Tarxien ( ) is a town in the Port region of Malta, seat of the Port Regional Council. Its population stood at 8,583 in March 2014. The town is most notable for the Tarxien Temples, a megalithic temple complex which is among the oldest freestanding structures on Earth. It forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Etymology The etymology of the village may be a corruption of ''Tirix'', meaning a large stone, similar to those used for the village's noted temples. The village motto is ''Tyrii Genure Coloni'' ("The Phoenicians created me"). Demographics Tarxien's population stood at 7,724 villagers in December 2008, which increased to 8,583 by March 2014. When the summer comes, the heat drives most of the citizens of Ħal Tarxien to the seaside villages of Malta, often bringing down the population of the village to about two-thirds of what it is during the colder months. Frank Temile (born 15 July 1990) is a Nigerian footballer who plays as a striker. Playing career Covenant Lagos Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Frank Temile began his football career in his native country Nigeria where he began with Covenant Lagos. Shooting Stars Temile joined leading Nigerian Premier League side Shooting Stars where he played the 2006–07 season with the club. Valletta Following some impressive displays for Shooting Stars, Frank gained a move to Valletta, where he was allocated the number 14 shirt. He was chosen as the third foreigner to play for Valletta. On 4 October 2007, he made his debut in the 2–1 defeat against Sliema Wanderers. In his first season ( 2007–08) he scored 10 goals, and helped the club win the Maltese Premier League for the first time in seven years. Terence Scerri (born 3 April 1984 in Senglea, Malta) is a professional footballer currently playing for Zurrieq Football Club Playing career Hibernians Terence Scerri was spotted playing for the St. George's youth team, and was snapped up by Maltese Premier League team Hibernians. Scerri made his first team bow during the 2000–01 season, going on to make just two appearances, failing to score, as Hibernians recorded a 4th-place finish in the Premier League. Scerri started to stake a claim for more first team action during the 2001–02 season. Terence made six appearances and scored two goals. He got his first taste of success as Hibernians won the Maltese title. Malta Football Association
The Malta Football Association (MFA; ) is the governing body of football (soccer), football in Malta. The Association organises the Maltese Football League for both men and women and several other competitions, including knockout competitions for the top teams for both genders. The Malta national football team, men's national team, Malta women's national football team, women's national team, as well as several youth representative teams compete regularly in international competitions organised by UEFA and FIFA. These include the European Championships and the World Cup. Malta also compete in the UEFA Futsal Championship, though not the UEFA Women's Futsal Championship to date.
