2007–08 I Liga
The 2007–08 I liga (then known as the II liga) was the 60th season of the I liga, the second highest division in the Polish football league system since its establishment in 1949. The league was operated by the Polish Football Association (PZPN). The league contested by 18 teams who competed for promotion to the 2008–09 Ekstraklasa. The regular season was played in a round-robin tournament. Each team played a total of 34 matches, half at home and half away. The season began on 28 July 2007, and concluded on 24 May 2008. I Liga
I liga (, ), currently named Betclic I liga due to its sponsorship by Betclic, is the men's second professional association football division of the Polish football league system, below the Ekstraklasa and above the II liga via promotion/relegation systems. It is run by the Polish Football Association (PZPN) since its inception on 30 May 1948. The league was renamed from Second League (II liga) to First League (I liga) in 2008. It is currently contested by 18 teams; from 2002, all clubs onwards must have a licence, issued by the Association.. Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski (), previously Groclin Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski, was a Polish football club based in Grodzisk Wielkopolski, Greater Poland Voivodeship. History Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski was founded on 30 April 1922. Its logo shows the ''Discobolus''. During World War II, Stanisław Zdzisław Kozłowski, co-founder of the club, was among Poles murdered by the Russians in the large Katyn massacre in April–May 1940. After several decades in lower league football, the club was taken over in the mid-1990s by Zbigniew Drzymała, president of the Inter Groclin Auto company, and enjoyed an instant string of promotions culminating in the promotion to top level football in 1997. OKS Odra Opole Spółka Akcyjna () is a association football, football club based in Opole, Poland, currently playing in the I liga. History Beginnings The history of Odra Opole began on 16 June 1945, when in the Opole Town Hall, a group of sports officials gathered to form a new Polish sports organisation. Under first chairman, lawyer Leonard Olejnik, Odra organised first post-WWII sports competition in the city: street running (July 1945). GKS Katowice (; GKS stands for , ) is a Polish professional football club based in Katowice. 2006–07 Ekstraklasa
The 2006–07 Ekstraklasa (also known as Orange Ekstraklasa due to its sponsorship by Orange Polska) started on 28 July 2006 and finished on 26 May 2007. Zagłębie Lubin were crowned champions. For the second time league was sponsored by cell phone operator Orange Polska and official name for championship was Orange Ekstraklasa 2006–07. Corruption On 12 April 2007 PZPN decided about degradation of Górnik Łęczna (two class degradation and 270,000 PLN fine) and Arka Gdynia (one class degradation and 200,000 PLN fine and minus 5 points on the start of next season) due to their involvement in corruption scandal. II Liga
II liga (Druga liga, ), currently named Betclic II liga due to its sponsorship by Betclic, is a Polish football league that sits at the third tier of the Polish football league system. Until the end of the 2007–08 season, ''II Liga'' referred to a league at the 2nd tier, although this changed with the formation of the Ekstraklasa as the top level league in Poland. Currently, II liga is below I liga and above III liga. Since the 2014–15 season, the league consists of a single division, unlike previous seasons when it was divided into two groups, ''West'' and ''East''. The league consists of 18 teams. The top two finishers are rewarded with automatic promotion to the I liga, while the teams ranked third to sixth face each other in promotion play-offs.
