2007–08 Australian Bushfire Season
The Australian bushfire season over the summer of 2007–2008, experienced fire occurrence below average for the season as some regions experienced increased rainfall and reduced fuel as a result of extensive fires during the previous 2006–07 season, particularly in Victoria where the fires in the 2006–07 season burnt over 1.1 million hectares of land. Fires in Victoria during the 2007–08 season burnt less than a fifth of the land area usually burnt during an average bushfire season. An analysis of bushfires in Victoria on public land by the Department of Sustainability and Environment revealed that the 2007–08 fires burnt 32,368 hectares, or 18.7% of the long-term average of 173,152 hectares. It was also estimated that 26% of these fires were caused by lightning strikes and 25% by arson. 2007 Wildfires
At least 9,093 separate wildfires charred of land in the US state of California in 2007. Thirty of those wildfires were part of the October 2007 California wildfires, Fall 2007 California firestorm, which burned approximately 972,147 acres (about 3,934 km2, or 1,520 mi2) of land from Santa Barbara County, California, Santa Barbara County to the United States–Mexico border, U.S.–Mexico border. At the peak of the wildfire activity in October 2007, the raging wildfires were visible from space. The wildfires killed a total of 17 people, with nine of them dying directly from the fires; 203 others were injured, including at least 124 firefighters. Willunga, South Australia
Willunga is a town located to the south of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Onkaparinga (a Local government in Australia, local government area). Stoneville, Western Australia
Stoneville is a suburb east of Perth in the Shire of Mundaring, Western Australia. It is named after Edward Albert Stone, who was Chief Justice of Western Australia when the place was named in 1905. The name was chosen by the local residents, who were developing the district for fruit growing. The town's population is 2,050, with a median age of 36 years and 7.1% of residents aged over 65. In a bushfire in January 2014 a considerable number of houses were destroyed. In 2019 local residents resorted to activism in a bid to stop the proposed North Stoneville SP34 development in favour of more sustainable housing. Parkerville, Western Australia
Parkerville is a suburb in the Shire of Mundaring in Perth Western Australia. Jane Brook flows through Parkerville on its way down to the Swan River through John Forrest National Park. History The Nyoongar people were the original custodians of the land. The arrival of British colonisers in 1829 on the Swan Coastal Plain eventually led to Nyoongar dispossession in the Hills behind Perth. The Parkerville Suburban Area was made open for selection in June 1895. Parkerville was one of the first stations to be constructed on the railway line that once ran between Bellevue and Mount Helena, opening for traffic in 1896.
