2007 U.S. Pan American Box-Offs
The 2007 U.S. Pan American Box-Offs were held in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The semi-finals and finals took place between January 20–21, 2007. The winners of these games will be part of the U.S. team in the Pan American Games, July 16–29 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. However, each still must qualify internationally before competing in the Pan Am Games. Karl Dargan
Karl Sharif Dargan (born June 17, 1985) is an American boxer. Nicknamed "The Dynamite", Dargan is best known for winning the gold medal at the 2007 Pan Am Games in the Men's Light Welterweight. Career Amateur Dargan began boxing at age seven in 1992 and won the PAL tournament 2005 at 125 lbs, at the National Golden Gloves 2002 on points to Lorenzo Reynolds in the finals and had to settle for 2nd. In 2005, Dargan became US champion but lost twice to Anthony Peterson at the Olympic team trials. In 2007, Dargan was upset by young Javier Molina at the US championships but rebounded to win the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro against local Myke Carvalho in the semi and Jonathan Gonzalez of Puerto Rico in the light welterweight final at the Riocentro Sports Complex (9:4). The amateur boxing, Men's Boxing Tournament at the 2007 Pan American Games was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from July 20 to July 28. It served as a qualification tournament for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, PR China. The number one and two earned a ticket for the Boxing at the 2008 Summer Olympics, Olympic Tournament. Mike Wilson (boxer)
Mike Wilson (born February 7, 1983) is an American professional boxer who has held the WBA- NABA cruiserweight title since 2018. As an amateur, he was a two-time U.S. National champion at super heavyweight. Amateur He started to box in 1997 and participated in the World Junior Championships 2000 where he lost in the first round to Caba Kurtusz. He upset George Garcia (the American participant at the world championships 2003) twice and Travis Kauffman several times which convinced Garcia and Kaufman to turn pro. He also has a DQ win over Mike Marrone but lost to him at the PAL championship 2003. In 2004, he lost to Jason Estrada in the Olympic qualification who had beaten him before and was only Olympic alternate, but after Estrada turned pro Wilson dominated the domestic scene. Christopher Downs
Christopher Downs (born November 5, 1974) is a US-American amateur boxer who won a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games 2007. Career A member of the U.S. Army's World Class Athlete Program, Sergeant Christopher Downs only took up boxing in 2003 at an advanced age. He had to put it on hold when he served in Tikrit in Iraq from January 2004 to March 2005. Downs was a member of a 16-man platoon of which 11 men were wounded and received Purple Hearts, including four under his direct command. He says "Anybody that sees their friends and superiors put their lives on the line, knowing what can happen to you any second of the day,it changes your perspective. Shawn Christian Porter (born October 27, 1987) is an American sports commentator and former professional boxer who competed from 2008 to 2021. He was a two-time welterweight world champion, having held the IBF title from 2013 to 2014 and the WBC title from 2018 to 2019. Demetrius Cesar Andrade ( ; born February 26, 1988) is an American professional boxer. He has held multiple world championships in two weight classes, at light middleweight and middleweight. Rico Dashon Ramos (born June 20, 1987) is an American professional boxer of Puerto Rican descent. He is a former WBA world super bantamweight champion.
