2007 Texas Constitutional Amendment Election
The 2007 Texas constitutional amendment election took place 6 November 2007. Sixteen proposed amendments (propositions) appeared on the ballot — all of which were approved by the voters. About 1,088,137 voters statewide went to the polls, out of 12,587,501 registered voters in Texas. ''Note: The following summaries are taken from a newspaper abridgement of a Texas Legislative Council summary booklet. Results are unofficial with 99.8 percent of all precincts reporting as of 7 November 2007.'' Proposition 1 Proposition 1 (H.J.R. No. 103) is the constitutional amendment providing for the continuation of the constitutional appropriation for facilities and other capital items at Angelo State University on a change in the governance of the university. Texas Youth Commission
The Texas Youth Commission (TYC) was a Texas state agency which operated juvenile corrections facilities in the state. The commission was headquartered in the Brown-Heatly Building in Austin. As of 2007, it was the second largest juvenile corrections agency in the United States, after the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. As of December 1, 2011, the agency was replaced by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. History The Gilmer-Aikin Laws in 1949 established the Texas Youth Development Council. In 1957 the state reorganized the agencies, placing the juvenile corrections system and homes for dependent and neglected children into the Texas Youth Council. In 1983 the Texas Legislature gave the agency its current name, the Texas Youth Commission. In September 2008 the TYC had 2,200 inmates, half the number it had 18 months previously. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT ) is a Texas state government agency responsible for construction and maintenance of the state's immense state highway system and the support of the state's maritime, aviation, rail, and public transportation systems. TxDOT previously administered vehicle registration prior to the creation of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles in November 2009. The agency has been headquartered in the Dewitt C. Texas State Capitol
The Texas State Capitol is the capitol and seat of government of the U.S. state of Texas. Located in downtown Austin, Texas, the structure houses the offices and chambers of the Texas Legislature and of the Governor of Texas. Designed in 1881 by architect Elijah E. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Inc., is an organization established in 1877 by forty Texas cattlemen for the purpose of combating unbridled livestock theft. The association headquarters is located in Fort Worth. History The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association was founded in Graham by forty ranchers from Palo Pinto County, Young County, Parker County, and Shackelford County, including C.C.
