Runnymede (borough)
The Borough of Runnymede is a local government district with borough status in the English county of Surrey. It is a very prosperous part of the London commuter belt, with some of the most expensive housing in the United Kingdom outside central London, such as the Wentworth Estate. Runnymede is entirely unparished and is largely built-up. The borough's council is based in Addlestone; other settlements include Chertsey, Egham, Egham Hythe, Virginia Water, Englefield Green and Thorpe. At the 2011 Census, the population of the borough was 80,510. The borough was formed in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 by the merger of the Chertsey and Egham Urban Districts, both of which had been created in 1894. It is named after Runnymede, a water meadow on the banks of the River Thames, near Egham. Runnymede Residents Association
Runnymede Independent Residents' Group was founded in 2001; it has held exactly one seventh of councillors' seats and formed the largest opposition party since the election it first contested in 2002. Electoral performance The Group was founded in 2001. Its maximal representation has been six of about forty-two seats ( the local elections occur in the bulk of years and the present number of councillors is 42) from 2002 to the time of writing, 2018. The group distribute campaign literature widely and have stood in a large minority of wards to Runnymede Borough Council. No election was held in the year when the party was set up (elections occur in three out of four years). Equal Parenting Alliance
The Equal Parenting Alliance is a minor political party in the United Kingdom. Founded in February 2006, it aims to bring about reform of the Family law system in England and Wales. It was started by former members of Real Fathers 4 Justice, a father's rights organisation, and a similar group New Fathers 4 Justice. Its leader is Ray Barry. The party supports custody being split equally for both parents and that a non-residing parent should be able to spend up to 100 days and nights with their child. 2007 English Local Elections
The 2007 UK local government elections were held on 3 May 2007. These elections took place in most of England and all of Scotland. There were no local government elections in Wales though the Welsh Assembly had a general election on the same day. There were no local government elections in Northern Ireland. Just over half of English councils and almost all the Scottish councils began the counts on Friday, rather than Thursday night, because of more complex arrangements regarding postal votes. These elections were a landmark in the United Kingdom as it was the first time that 18- to 20-year-olds could stand as candidates for council seats. The change was due to an alteration of the Electoral Administration Act.
